The Honor 7S smartphone will launch today. The entry-level Android smartphone is also known as the Honor 7 Play in certain international markets. Huawei’s sub-brand has tied-up with Flipkart, and the smartphone will be exclusively available through the Indian eCommerce platform.
The Honor 7S is an interesting budget Android smartphone. It apparently wants to challenge the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Series, the Oppo’s Realme 2, and other similarly priced devices. Moreover, with the Honor branding, the smartphone will have some appealing specifications and features. Incidentally, the Honor 7S is essentially just a re-branded Honor 7 Play, which launched in China in May this year. Honor had also launched the Honor 7S in Pakistan at the same time.
While the smartphone already sports a very exciting price tag to begin with, Honor has an offer that allows buyers to grab one for free. Honor is hosting a contest on its website, where users can play a game and stand a chance to win the Honor 7S, and a few other products. Let us look at the specifications and features of the Honor 7S before it officially launches today in India.
The Honor 7S being a rebranded device. Hence most of the specifications and features of the device are easily available online. Honor 7S: Specifications, Features
The Honor 7S is an entry-level budget Android smartphone. The handset features a 5.45-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution, and 18:9 aspect ratio. Interestingly, despite the affordable pricing, the built and design of the smartphone are quite decent. The smartphone sports an aluminum back and 2.5D curved glass up front.
The Honor 7S comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. A Mediatek MT6739 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, and paired to a PowerVR GE8100 GPU, powers the smartphone. Incidentally, the device does have a dedicated micro-SD card slot for increasing the storage by up to 256GB.
Honor Play Review: Design and Build
The budget smartphone has single a 13MP single sensor with dual-tone LED flash and phase-detection autofocus. On the front though, there’s a surprisingly large 24MP unit. Needless to mention, the large front camera will surely appeal to selfie enthusiasts. There’s even a soft light LED flash for selfies and video-calling under poor light conditions. Some reports indicate about a rather humble 5MP selfie camera. Today’s launch should confirm the resolution.
The Honor 7S runs on EMUI 8.1 based on Android Oreo. It comes with some interesting features such as three-finger screenshot, double tap to wake, smart volume control, and more. Connectivity options on the smartphone include 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS, and microUSB 2.0.
The smartphone packs a rather small 3,020mAh battery pack. There’s no mention of a Fast Charging standard either. Strangely, the Honor 7S lacks a fingerprint sensor. Even more surprising, is the lack of Face Unlock. Buyers of this device will have to rely on the traditional pass-code or pattern lock for security. The smartphone will be available in Blue, Black, and Gold colors.
Honor 7S: Price in India
The price of the Honor 7 Play in China during launch in May was 599 Chinese Yuan. Hence, its price in India could be around Rs 6,500. This price would certainly attract many first time smartphone buyers.
Honor 9N Performance Review: Does More RAM Make A Difference?
Honor may price the handset closer to Xiaomi Redmi 6A, a Chinese entry-level contender with competing specifications. However, the Honor 7S will also have to compete with Oppo Realme 2.
