Google made history with Android at its I/O conference earlier this year when it announced for the first time that certain non-Pixel devices would be included in the Developer Preview of the new Android Pie version. One of these devices was the OnePlus 6 and since then Android Pie has been released to the public for Pixel devices, it was only a matter of time before we saw a general release of Android 9.0 Pie for the OnePlus 6.
OnePlus today took to its forums to announce the good news to owners of the OnePlus 6 that it has released an Open Beta 1 for Android Pie.
The first Open Beta of Android Pie for the OnePlus 6 includes the latest version of OxygenOS, which is the minimal skin that OnePlus applies on top of Android to offer specific OnePlus features.
Despite this release being based on the final public release of Android Pie, as mentioned above, it does include OxygenOS enhancements and is, therefore, a beta release so some stuff won’t work and your mileage may vary, but that goes without saying for a beta release. One big caveat that may deter some users from installing is that Google Pay will not work with Open Beta 1. You can view the full changelog and known issues, as well as installation instructions below.
