BlackBerry has refused to throw the towel in, even after the mobile phone battle has clearly left it behind with smartphones that have replaced the keyboard on the front long ago. With its flagship phone BlackBerry KEY2, the American phone maker asserted its place without compromising on its signature design language of featuring a physical QWERTY keypad on its phones. In addition to this pricey device, BlackBerry has been quietly making a couple of ‘Lite’ variants, and now there is news that another might be adding to the stable.
BlackBerry KEY2 LE: Coming as a Lite Variant
While there is no official confirmation about the Lite variants to the BlackBerry KEY2 phone, leaks showed that there were two variants called Lite in the making. Today, another handset going with the name BlackBerry KEY2 LE has cleared certification from the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This means that the Lite line-up of the KEY2 is growing, as the handset bears a new model number but within the series of the previous two Lite models that were leaked. The new handset’s model number is BBE 100-5 while the two other Lite variants were numbered BBE 100-1 and BBE 100-2. Since the model numbers are different, there is speculation that the three leaked Lite variants of the BlackBerry KEY2 will be different in some ways, especially in the internal storage and RAM capacities.
BlackBerry KEY2 LE: Features, Specifications
The third variant of the BlackBerry KEY2 LE also seems to have similar specifications as the other two, with dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, Bluetooth, and a 2,900 mAh battery. Colour variants are expected to be Copper, Red, and Blue. The BlackBerry KEY2 LE is likely to come with a 6GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor that has a 1.84GHz frequency.
BlackBerry KEY2 LE: Launch, Price in India
The new variant of the BlackBerry KEY2 Lite line-up called LE is expected to launch late in August or early in September. Since the international consumer electronics expo called IFA Berlin is not far away, it wouldn’t be a surprise if BlackBerry decides to unveil it there in the first week of September. Since the BlackBerry KEY2 was launched in India only this week on July 23, it is difficult to tell what the pricing of the BlackBerry KEY2 LE would be, although it should be less than the Rs 42,990 that you have to shell out for the BlackBerry KEY2.
