The upcoming flagship smartphones from Chinese manufacturer Meizu have been on the news for a while now. Known as the Meizu 16, and the Meizu 16 Plus, these new phones are going to be competing against the likes of OnePlus 6, Asus Zenfone 5Z, and many others.
And now we have the official launch date for these new Meizu smartphones. The company has started to send out invites for the launch event, to the media.
Meizu 16, Meizu 16 Plus: Launch Date
Meizu has scheduled an event on July 30th, which is a bit earlier than the rumored August 8th date. The earlier, the better. The company sent out a rather strange invite to media and other publications.
The invitation box contained a ‘Head and Shoulder’ shampoo, along with an inscription, date, and timing of the event. Now, that is a weird thing to be included in an invitation box. As per a report, it is possible that Head and Shoulders is an event partner for the event.

Whatever the case, it is pretty much confirmed that Meizu would be launching some new phones on July 30. And since the Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus have been receiving certifications everywhere, we can be sure that this event is for the revealing of these new phones.
The new Meizu 16 series comes hardly a couple of months after the release of its predecessor, the Meizu 15. Since the Meizu 15 series didn’t have the latest 2018 hardware, the company probably thought it was best to go ahead and release new models with the latest hardware and features. The certifications have already revealed the most important features of the upcoming phones, so let us talk about them in brief.
Meizu 16: Specifications, Features
The smaller of the two devices, the Meizu 16, is said to come with a 6-inch Full HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and no notch. Unlike several 2018 smartphones, Meizu will be skipping the ‘notch’. The display is said to feature super thin bezels on all four sides, and it will be flat, instead of having curved edges.
In terms of performance, the Meizu 16 will supposedly feature the Snapdragon 710 chipset, with up to 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. It is also possible that the phone could feature either Face unlock or an in-display fingerprint sensor. A dual-camera setup will also be present at the back of the device, but the renders do not show a fingerprint scanner at the back. Apart from that, the phone is said to pack a 2950mAh battery that will support fast charging, and a 20MP camera at the front.
Meizu 16 Plus: Specifications, Features
The bigger Meizu 16 Plus is going to feature a 6.5-inch display with no notch, and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Once again, expect the bezels all around to be super slim. The Plus variant will most likely be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, and also include up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The dual-camera setup should be similar to the one found on the regular Meizu 16. However, an in-display fingerprint sensor on the Plus is more likely to happen than on the standard variant. But, only time will tell if both get the feature, or just the higher Plus model. The Meizu 16 Plus will also come with a higher 3570mAh capacity battery.
For the complete specifications and features of the Meizu 16 and Meizu 16 Plus, we suggest you wait for the official announcement. The date is set for July 30, which is only a few days away. It is likely that Meizu might start selling the phones in early August, with an expected starting price of CNY 2,999 for the standard variant.
