Motorola has grabbed a good share of the budget smartphone market with its E and G phones, and among the more popular budget devices it makes is the Moto G5 and its variant Moto G5 Plus. The Moto G5 Plus comes with Android Nougat out of the box but has been receiving Android updates to the extent that in select markets, Motorola is testing the Moto G5 Plus for Android 8.1 Oreo, the latest available Android software.
Moto G5 Plus: Android 8.1 Oreo Beta Update
Moto G5 Plus users in Brazil and some other markets have today started receiving the Android 8.1 Oreo as a beta test. The update is limited to users registered with the Motorola Feedback Network (MFN), and it comes with the latest July security patch.
The new Android 8.1 Oreo official beta tester update for Moto G5 Plus comes with numerous enhancements in the user interface, and packs in some new features too. There is a new Pixel 2 Launcher, a redone power menu, round icons for the status bar and settings app, a new animation for shutting down and rebooting the phone, and enhanced stability. Additionally, the new update includes a new Moto Action feature where you can slide three fingers over the screen to take its screenshot. There is a new light theme and a dark theme, and they switch automatically based on the wallpaper.
Other Moto G5 Plus users can expect to receive the new Android 8.1 Oreo update with July security patch and an enhanced UI in the next few weeks, as Motorola fixes any bugs that could be reported by the MFN testers.
Moto G5 Plus: Features, Specifications
The Motorola Moto G5 Plus comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display and boots Android 7.0 Nougat that can officially be updated to Android Oreo. The device is resistant to water splashing and dust and weighs only 155 grams. It has bezels and follows the more conventional 16:9 aspect ratio for the display, with its strength being its budget pricing for a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor that is clocked at 2GHz. The storage variants are two: 3GB RAM plus 16GB ROM, and 4GB RAM plus 32GB ROM. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and the graphics processor is a fast Adreno 506.
Among its notable features are a dual rear camera with a 12MP and a 5MP sensor, dual Nano SIM 4G support, 4K video recording, dual-LED flash, autofocus, and QuickCharge support.
The front camera is a 5MP unit which can record HD videos, while the rear camera gets slow motion HD and 4K recording, dual-LED flash, and autofocus. The 3,000 mAh Li-Ion battery comes with Qualcomm’s QuickCharge support that lets it charge up to 80 per cent in just a half hour.
Connectivity features include Bluetooth 4.2, dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, NFC, HTML5 browser, and microUSB 2.0.
Since the phone has a 16:9 display aspect ratio, the fingerprint sensor is on the front under the home button.
Moto G5 Plus: Price in India
The Moto G5 Plus comes in 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage option at a price tag of Rs.14,999 and is available only on Flipkart and only in Fine Gold colour. The larger storage variant with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage costs Rs.11,999 in discount at Flipkart now, and otherwise carries a price tag of Rs.16,999, and is sold in both Fine Gold and Lunar Grey colours.
