OPPO Find X vs Vivo NEX: How These Flagships Face the Durability Test

The OPPO Find X and the Vivo NEX (review) are the only two smartphones in the world right now that sport a motorized pop-up camera system and this had to happen because the phones sport a very high screen-to-body percentage. However, does featuring a pop-up camera plus a brilliantly unique design means that this might compromise the durability of both flagship phones? Zach Nelson from JerryRigEverything decided to test this out for us, and we have the answer for you below.

OPPO Find X: Durability Test Results

The OPPO Find X is an expensive smartphone and is made using a premium combination of metal and glass. While the flagship did survive the scratch and burn test, the phone was not able to pass the bend test. The AMOLED screen broke after sufficient force had been applied on it. Zach Nelson says that while using the phone, it is recommended that you do not drop it or accidentally step on it, because it might lead to a catastrophic failure of the smartphone.

He also noticed some movement when attempting to pull the motorized camera system and this is very different than what he encountered in the Vivo NEX durability test. In regular scenarios, this kind of stuff is not going to be expected with the smartphone but you should still be careful after purchasing this one.

Vivo NEX: Durability Test Results

The Vivo NEX was constructed with a bit more thought towards the durability of the smartphone. Though Zach did say that there was a noticeable bend when he applied pressure on one side of the device, there were no signs of any major damage. The Vivo NEX managed to pass the remaining tests with flying colours, with the YouTuber claiming in the OPPO Find X durability video that the NEX’s pop-up is more structurally secure and does not wiggle around like it does in the former’s body.

OPPO Find X: Price in India, Specifications, Features

The OPPO Find X is available exclusively at Flipkart for a price of Rs. 59990 and ships with a massive 6.42-inch full HD+ AMOLED panel with a 2340 x 1080 resolution, an 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 93.8% screen at the front. A Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen of the phone, and the device is running Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.1. An octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC powers the device along with an Adreno 630 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of non-expandable internal storage, unfortunately.

However, with this much storage, it does not make sense to add expandable storage, so thumbs up to OPPO for looking ahead. For optics, the Find X sports a dual-camera setup at the rear of the camera slider with a 16 + 20MP primary and secondary lens loaded with features such as AI portraits and AI Scene Recognition. There is also a 25MP selfie shooter at the front with a f/2.0 aperture, with the AI-assisted 3D Camera supporting things like 3D lighting with artistic filters.

There is a 3730mAh battery present in the phone with VOOC fast charging support and the connectivity options that you get with the Find X range from 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, USB-Type C port, and GPS. Sadly, the phone does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but it does ship with a USB Type-C to audio jack adapter.

Vivo NEX: Price in India, Specifications, Features

The Vivo NEX is available at a price of Rs. 44990 and is being sold exclusively at Amazon India. It features an AMOLED display measuring 6.59-inches diagonally with a resolution of 2316 x 1080 and a 19.3:9 aspect ratio. Apart from boasting an impressive 91.24% screen-to-body ratio, the NEX also comes with a third generation in-display fingerprint reader.

The phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset clocked at 2.8GHz, along with an Adreno 630 GPU. In terms of memory, the variant currently sold in India includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. Unfortunately, this is all the storage that you get because the Vivo NEX does not feature a microSD card slot.

At the rear part of the smartphone, there is a 12 + 5MP dual-camera setup with the primary sensor boasting a large 1.4um pixel size, Dual Pixel PDAF for fast autofocus speeds, and 4-axis optical image stabilization hardware that will reduce the camera shake when capturing images or videos. Sadly, unlike the other Snapdragon 845-powered flagships the Vivo NEX does not support 4K video recording at 60fps, but a future software update will be able to solve this problem. There is also a pop-up selfie camera module that offers an 8MP resolution and is paired with a f/2.0 aperture.

Connectivity features for the smartphone include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, a USB Type-C charging port, and dual 4G VoLTE support. The handset features a large 4000mAh non-removable battery with 22W fast charging support.

There is also a dedicated AI button on the left-side to enable access to a wide range of AI services for the user. In terms of software, the flagship ships with Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0 out of the box.
