Airtel to Deploy Massive Number of New Mobiles Sites And Optic Fiber in Its Two of The Biggest Circles

After successfully launching over 11,453 new mobile sites in various areas in Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand in the Financial Year (FY) 2017-18 and expanding its mobile broadband presence to cover 983 towns of the two states, Airtel is all set to follow the deployment pattern in FY 2018-19.

Airtel’s Expansion Plans

Part of its plans for FY 2018-19, Airtel aims to deploy over 17,313 mobile sites and lay around 6,650 KM of new fiber-optic lines across the deeper rural pockets of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh to provide them with high-speed data as well as better voice services. This decision was taken after the telco had been successful in deploying more than 11,453 new sites in 983 towns of UP and Uttrakhand in FY 2017-18 and thus, expanding its mobile broadband presence.

The Deployment Drive

Currently, Airtel has more than 49.6 million customers in Uttrakhand and Uttar Pradesh circles alone. Its wireless and wired services cover a combined total of 983 towns and about 1,24,515 villages of the two states. The latest deployment of over 17,000 new mobile sites and fiber optics will create a considerable capability for voice and high-speed data within the Airtel network. This will help the telco in serving the huge surge in mobile usage that was caused by the affordable tariffs and smartphones.

By the end of FY 2017-18, Airtel had already set up a total of 43,219 sites. The planned roll out of the new mobile sites will increase Airtel’s network in the two states by 40 percent and take the total sites up to 60,532. The fresh laying of fiber optics will increase the fiber stretch of Airtel to 26,800 KM in both the states combined. These efforts by the Sunil Mittal led telecom will enhance the quality of speed and voice network in the region besides providing added support to the growth in high-speed data demands in the region.
