Nokia 5.1 Plus will finally get a confirmed price today. Interested buyers will also know when the affordable Android One smartphone will be up for sale in India.
HMD Global recently unveiled the Nokia 5.1 Plus, a capable yet affordable Android smartphone. However, the company chose to refrain from confirming the critical details about price and availability of the Android One smartphone in India. A couple of days back, the Nokia’s official Indian Twitter handle posted a teaser video about the smartphone. Interestingly, the Nokia 5.1 Plus launched alongside the Nokia 6.1 Plus. However, the latter was available for purchase quickly, while the US-based HMD Global withheld the former.
HMD Global is positioning the Nokia 5.1 Plus as a great mobile gaming device. Strangely, the teaser did not particularly point at Nokia 5.1 Plus, and just asked Nokia fans if they are ‘ready to #GameOn’. But the teaser must belong to the Nokia 5.1 Plus primarily because it is the only Nokia smartphone that is revealed but not on sale.
Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus launched at an event in New Delhi. While the Nokia 6.1 Plus has been going on multiple Flash Sales and running out of stock qickly, the Nokia 5.1 Plus was held back for a late September release, and apparently, will launch on Flipkart today.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Affordable Flipkart Exclusive Android One Smartphone
It seems Flipkart is going to be the exclusive e-commerce platform to sell the Nokia 5.1 Plus. A small ad on the Flipkart website for the smartphone says “Launching Nokia 5.1 Plus. Helio P60 Processor. Price reveal on 24th Sept, 2 pm,”. Clicking on the rather small banner ad opened up a dedicated announcement page of the smartphone. Keeping the mystery, the page did not offer any more details than the ones already available on the Nokia website.
Flipkart and Nokia have remained silent on the price of Nokia 5.1 Plus and its availability. However, the Android One smartphone will finally get a confirm list price as well as details about availability today. We expect the handset may sport a launch price in India of Rs. 12,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage configuration. There’s another lower-end variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage as well. We except it may cost just Rs. 10,999.
At this price point, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is firmly placed in the affordable Android smartphone category. It will compete against popular devices like the Redmi Note 5, which starts at Rs. 9,999 or the new Redmi 6 Pro, which starts at Rs 10,999.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Specifications, Features
The Nokia 5.1 Plus also identifies as the Nokia X5 in the Chinese market. It sports a 5.86-inch IPS LCD screen with a notch at the top and a 720 x 1520 resolution. The phone features a plastic body.
A MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, paired with an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, powers the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The base version of the smartphone features 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the higher-end variant gets 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. A hybrid SIM card slot allows insertion of micro-SD card to boost memory expansion up to 256GB.
For imaging, the smartphone features a 13MP + 5MP dual camera setup at the back. The secondary 5MP unit offers depth-sensing and the Bokeh effect. The handset gets a front-facing 8MP camera.
A decent 3,060mAh battery powers the smartphone. But there’s no mention of any Fast Charging support. Thankfully, the handset includes a 3.5 headphone jack. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 with LE, GPS with A-GPS, FM radio, and a Type-C USB charging port.
The smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo. However, it belongs to the Android One lineup of devices. Hence, HMD Global, in association with Google, will surely update the device to Android 9 Pie, and send out security updates for a long time.
