It appears that the launch is closer than we would have thought for the much-awaited OnePlus 6T in China. The latest in a series of leaks and rumours is a screen guard for the upcoming phone, confirming what we have been reporting about the device. If you have been living under a rock, the OnePlus 6T is the new iteration of the OnePlus 6, which was launched in May here in India to entice the tech-thirsty OnePlus fan base.
The handset quickly sold more than a million units in India, and became something of a global phenomenon as well, furthering the reputation of OnePlus handsets as flagship killers. Some even rated its camera better than most other camera equipment on flagship phones available at the time, and we know that OnePlus always adds some camera improvements to its ‘T’ editions.
OnePlus 6T Screen Protector Spotted
In today’s leak from PiunikaWeb, a user of the microblogging site, Weibo purportedly found a screen protector for the OnePlus 6T listed on the official Chinese website of the OnePlus brand. However, as of now, there is no such listing available. The explanation could be that the listing was put up by mistake and taken down quickly, or it was a fake leak. However, it does not sound off the mark, as it only confirms what we have been reporting about the OnePlus 6T– that it will sport a waterdrop notch.

The screen protector shared in the screenshot on Weibo clearly shows a waterdrop notch and a narrow chin. This further cements the speculation that the OnePlus 6T is based on the Oppo R17, which is available in China and has a waterdrop notch and a narrow chin as well. For the uninitiated, OnePlus is a sub-brand of Oppo and its smartphones are based on Oppo handsets, although, they are not the same.
The official unveiling date of the OnePlus 6T is still a secret, and much speculation has been centred in the date October 17. However, with today’s screen protector listing gaffe, we reckon the launch could be even sooner than that.
OnePlus 6T: Leaked, Rumoured, Teased Specifications
The OnePlus 6T is now no more a dream, with the OnePlus brand itself teasing its launch and even putting up a Notify Me page on Amazon.in, where it is to be sold exclusively so far as the Indian market is concerned. There is also a brief advertisement showing Amitabh Bachchan flaunting the OnePlus 6T for its new, ‘cooler’ way to unlock the phone. The advertisement only mentions the Notify Me page on Amazon and not anything else about the handset, with very little of the phone itself being revealed in the ad.
From among the many leaks, rumours and the few teasers by OnePlus, we have gathered quite a bunch of specifications for the OnePlus 6T. The handset is expected to ship with a 6.4-inch Optic AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch, which would give it more screen space than that of the OnePlus 6, which itself was excellent. The Full HD+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio would have a screen resolution of 1080px2340p and an in-display fingerprint sensor. This last bit has been confirmed by OnePlus and it makes the phone the first OnePlus handset to have an in-display fingerprint sensor, as also the waterdrop notch.
The OnePlus 6T is expected to share the chipset with the OnePlus 6, as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor is still the latest and best from Qualcomm line-up of flagship chipsets. RAM and storage options could be multiple, with a 6GB as well as an 8GB RAM, and at least three internal storage options: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
Camera wise, as we mentioned earlier, the T badge usually brings about some improvement in the OnePlus handsets, so we expect a 20MP selfie shooter rather than the 16MP one we saw on the OnePlus 6. The rear camera could remain the same 16MP+20MP as it was already rated very well, but may add some improvements and new AI-based features. Connectivity wise, expect the OnePlus 6T to come with all the specifications and features you get with flagship handsets, such as dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, but not wireless charging as that bumps up the cost significantly.

The OnePlus 6 is available in India for a starting price in India of Rs 34,999, and the OnePlus 6T might come in at a higher price than that, but not so much that it falls in another range altogether. Usually, the T badge does increase the cost of the OnePlus handsets, but not by a lot. As and when any pricing information leaks, we will update our post to keep you informed.
