Not reveling in the success of the Note 9 or the recent announcement of the Galaxy J4+ and Galaxy J6+, Samsung was back on stage unveiling yet another device. Samsung has launched its latest mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A7 (2018). The device is the company’s first to feature the standout triple rear camera setup and is complemented by a 6-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display to bring one of the best displays found on an Android device from the Galaxy S9 to the mid-range.
“Samsung is committed to delivering meaningful innovation to all consumers across the Galaxy family, no matter who they are or where they are in the world,” said DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “That’s why we’re excited to introduce innovative new features to the A series with the Galaxy A7, a practical but powerful device that is built to help make your every day both convenient and extraordinary.”
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018): Triple Camera Setup
With its triple camera, the Galaxy A7 is a photography power-house. The device is the first Samsung smartphone to feature a triple camera setup that sees a 24-megapixel f/1.7 camera with an 8-megapixel f/2.4 ultra-wide 120-degree lens and a 5-megapixel f/2.2 depth-sensor. The photography capabilities are just as impressive on the front of the device with a 24-megapixel f/2.0 sensor that will give some impressive selfie shots with LED flash, Selfie Focus, and Pro Lighting Mode.
With all these sensors, the Galaxy A7 has some impressive features as you’d expect with Samsung’s intelligent Scene Optimizer that uses AI to automatically adjust the camera settings depending on the surroundings. The depth-sensor is put to good use with the ability to adjust bokeh effects as well as combining four pixels into one to produce better photos in low-light situations. Not only has the device got some excellent camera hardware but it also has the software to put those specs to good use.
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018): Specs, Features
When it comes to a spec sheet, you’ll see Android 8.0 Oreo installed out of the box, which is unfortunate given Android 9.0 Pie is released to the public, but expected since not even the Galaxy flagships have the latest version of Android. Continuing to look at the specs, the Galaxy A7 has a Super AMOLED 6-inch display with 1080 x 2280 resolution with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
The device is powered by an unidentified Octa-core 2.2 GHz CPU with either 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage or 4GB/6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. It is currently unclear if the CPU is Samsung’s own internal Exynos processor.
Measuring 159.8 x 76.8 x 7.5 mm, the device weighs 168g and offers dual-SIM functionality inside a IP68 dust and waterproof casing offering a 74.4% screen-to-body ratio and 411 pixels-per-inch.
As far as connectivity goes, options include 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, ANT+, NFC (subject to region) with Samsung Pay support, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. All of this is powered by a 3300mAh battery with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018): Price, Expected Launch
Samsung has not yet released any details of the price for the Galaxy A7 but has stated that the phone would be made available in select European and Asian markets starting this fall, with plans to expand to other international markets in the near future. The device is aimed at the mid-range so can expect it to be priced as such and will be available in four colors: blue, black, gold and pink.
