Samsung Galaxy A7 vs OPPO R17 Pro vs Vivo X23: Price in India

Currently, only the Samsung Galaxy A7 is expected to launch in India with a price in India slated at Rs. 25,000. If the OPPO R17 Pro launches in India, it may flash a price of Rs. 32,999, while the Vivo X23 might cost Rs. 39,990. Again, these are not the official pricing details of the three smartphones and we have just provided you with an estimation.

Samsung Galaxy A7 vs OPPO R17 Pro vs Vivo X23: Design and Display

There is no doubt that the three smartphones from Samsung, OPPO and Vivo feature tremendous build quality and they top it off with a premium design that will fool people into thinking that these are actually mid-range handsets. The Galaxy A7 features a 6-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 2280 x 1080 resolution in an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone features the same Infinity Display that is found in Samsung’s flagship smartphone range.

As for the OPPO R17 Pro, it too features an AMOLED panel with a 6.4-inch size, 2340 x 1080 resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Next comes the Vivo X23, and it flaunts a large 6.41-inch AMOLED screen with the same resolution and aspect ratio as the R17 Pro. Except for the Galaxy A7, the remaining two smartphones feature a teardrop notch, which increases the screen-to-body ratio considerably, and it also does a great job in improving the aesthetics of both devices thanks to that teardrop notch design.

The Galaxy A7 houses a fingerprint reader on the side, while the OPPO R17 Pro and the Vivo X23 sport an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Samsung Galaxy A7 vs OPPO R17 Pro vs Vivo X23: Performance and Hardware

Samsung’s Galaxy A7 sports an unnamed chipset featuring an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor running at a speed of 2.2GHz, coupled with 4GB RAM + 64GB memory for the base model and providing as much as 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage for the top-end version.

The OPPO R17 Pro is the most powerful in this comparison as it features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 for performance, which is paired with an Adreno 616 and provides 6GB of RAM with 128GB internal storage. Last, comes the Vivo X23, which is armed with a slightly less powerful SoC than the Snapdragon 710; a Snapdragon 670. However, it impresses in the memory department because it features 8GB of RAM coupled with 128GB of internal storage.

Leaving out the Vivo X23, only the Galaxy A7 and the OPPO R17 Pro feature expandable storage via microSD card slot and even then, that card will take up a single SIM slot, so you should decide if you want to run two numbers in a device or get expandable storage instead. If you want performance out of the three devices compared here, we recommend picking up the Vivo X23. This smartphone features only a slightly less powerful Snapdragon 670 when compared against the Snapdragon 710 but it gets a whopping 8GB of RAM in return.

Samsung Galaxy A7 vs OPPO R17 Pro vs Vivo X23: Camera

Both the Galaxy A7 and the R17 Pro feature a triple-camera setup at the back but they both behave very differently. The Galaxy A7 features a 24MP+8MP+5MP configuration, where the 8MP unit is used for ultra-wide-angle shots while the 5MP sensor is used for depth-sensing to capture images with a Bokeh effect. The front side of the phone houses a single 24MP snapper.

Coming to the OPPO R17 Pro, it features a 12MP+20MP+TOF 3D sensor, where the last camera is used for AR purposes rather than taking pictures. The front side features a single 25MP shooter. As for the Vivo X23, it sports a dual-camera with a 12MP+13MP configuration, with the secondary sensor housed inside a wide-angle lens. The front side of the smartphone sports a 12MP shooter. Luckily, all three devices are able to capture 4K footage at 30fps.

In the camera department, we’d have to side with the Galaxy A7 because while the TOF 3D sensor on the OPPO R17 Pro is useful for a lot of things, image capturing is not going to be one of them.

Samsung Galaxy A7 vs OPPO R17 Pro vs Vivo X23: Battery and OS

Samsung’s Galaxy A7 houses the smallest battery in this comparison; a 3300mAh capacity, followed by the Vivo X23’s 3400mAh unit, and then the OPPO R17 Pro’s generously sized 3700mAh battery. The mid-ranger from Samsung is running Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s custom skin running on top. The R17 Pro is running Android 8.1 Oreo with its ColorOS 5.1 UI running on top, with the X23 running the same update as the former, but with a customized Funtouch OS 4.5 skin.

Vivo NEX Review: Marching Towards A Bezel-Less Future

Samsung Galaxy A7 vs OPPO R17 Pro vs Vivo X23: Conclusions

After careful consideration, the OPPO R17 Pro is going to be our pick from this comparison. It sports a powerful chipset, and while it does not feature 8GB RAM like the Vivo X23, it will still allow for lots of multitasking options for the user thanks to sporting 6GB of RAM. It also carries a generous 3700mAh battery that supports fast-charging and it is armed with a capable triple-camera at the back. While the other smartphones in this comparison are capable in their own regard, the OPPO R17 Pro wins the competition here.
