The Galaxy J series is part of Samsung’s inexpensive, budget-friendly pricing strategy, but it isn’t yielding the results the Korean giant hopes to see. Smartphone series should make money, grow the brand, but the J series has been more of the same for a company competing in the lower-end segment.
Galaxy J merges with Galaxy A, will die
With Samsung making changes to its Galaxy A series to incorporate more budget-friendliness alongside cutting-edge features (a recent invitation could be the start of it all), it seems inevitable that some smartphone series will die. Thus, word out of Korea as of late is that Samsung intends to kill the Galaxy J series and incorporate its goals into the mid-range, Galaxy A series.
Galaxy A for the mid-range, Galaxy M for the low-end
The Galaxy J series, in this regard, won’t go away, but it won’t be named “J” anymore. The Galaxy A series will take center stage as the company’s unified mid-range smartphone segment. For the lower-end, once occupied by the J series, will now see the Galaxy M series. The Galaxy M series will help Samsung compete in the Chinese market, where native OEMs are churning out cheaper phones with premium specs.
Galaxy J phones incoming
With all the talk of Samsung eliminating the J series, you wouldn’t believe it to be true. This month alone, Samsung has certified a number of upcoming Galaxy J smartphones such as the J6 Prime, J6 Plus, J4 Plus, and J4 Core. And yet, these smartphones will likely be “the last of the Mohicans,” to use a book title penned by James Fenimore Cooper. With this new strategy preparing to take place as early as next month, these could either see the light of day as the last J phones, or see a Galaxy A rebranding of some sort before going live. These smartphones will be the last of the J series, though, if the new A series takes the center of the mid-range phone stage.
