Nokia 7.1 Launch Expected on December 6 in India as HMD Global Sends Out Media Invites

Looks like the recently launched Nokia 7.1 is finally making its way to the Indian sub-continent. The media are starting to receive a new invite from HMD Global for an event in New Delhi. The event is scheduled for December 6 and we expect the company to launch the new Nokia 7.1.

Just a month ago, the Nokia 7.1 was launched in the UK for €299. However, a report from last month had suggested that the phone would be launched in November. That doesn’t seem to be the case though. Nevertheless, if you’ve been wanting to purchase the Nokia 7.1 in India, you don’t have to wait long.

Nokia 7.1 Launch in India

For the last two weeks, Nokia Mobile India has been teasing a new smartphone. The teasers clearly show a device with a notch. The Nokia 7.1 is the latest phone from HMD Global to feature a notch similar to the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Since the company has already released the 6.1 Plus in India, it is only logical that the next phone is the new 7.1. However, there is also a chance that we could also see the Nokia 7.1 Plus being announced.

The teasers states that we should expect more from the display and we should get ready for an epic viewing experience. Well, a notched display does provide edge-to-edge viewing experience, at least on the sides. The Nokia 7.1 has a chin at the bottom, so it isn’t really fully bezel-less. It also doesn’t have a large display, when compared to the newer Nokia 7.1 Plus. The phone is available in two color options: Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel colors.

The Nokia 7.1 Plus could probably be the global variant of the X7, which was recently launched in China. This device has a large 6.18-inch display that supports HDR10 and also comes in a red color, which was the subject of one of its recent teasers. It is also possible that Nokia could launch this phone as the Nokia 8.1 in India.

There is no information regarding the price of any of these smartphones in India. We expect HMD Global to price the Nokia 7.1 around INR 25,000, which is actually pretty high for what the phone offers. Similarly spec’d smartphones, such as the Realme 2 Pro, Redmi Note 6 Pro, and Vivo Y95, offer better value for money. The phone should face tough competition from these devices. Even the Nokia 6.1 Plus seems like a better option if the 7.1 is priced that high. Anyway, we will know in about a weeks time if Nokia is launching the 7.1 or the 7.1 Plus. The pricing would be announced at the event as well.

Nokia 7.1 vs Nokia 7.1 Plus

The Nokia 7.1 is a good looking smartphone that has a glass body and an aluminium frame. This is a mid-range device with a very premium look, which gives it a design advantage over other smartphones in the same range. It is powered by the Snapdragon 636 processor, has a 5.84-inch FHD+ display with a notch, up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, dual-rear cameras, 5MP front camera, and a 3060mAh battery.

Meanwhile, the Nokia 7.1 Plus is a much better device. It has a 6.18-inch FHD+ display, which has a notch and supports HDR10 as well. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 710 processor and gets up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The dual-rear camera setup on the phone has OIS and there’s a 20MP selfie camera. The device also has a headphone jack and a 3500mAh battery keeps the lights on. We hope that Nokia announces this phone in India on December 6, instead of the Nokia 7.1.
