Xiaomi is planning to roll out its MIUI 10 update armed with Android Pie to compatible smartphones. This year, apart from Google’s Pixel family, other non-Google handsets were included in the Android Pie beta program which is a terrific thing to see, especially for Xiaomi fans. With the inclusion of Project Treble, you can expect that more Xiaomi devices will be receiving Android Pie.
Xiaomi has a better record of software updates than most Chinese OEMs and preparations for Android Pie with MIUI 10 have already begun. High up on the priority list is the Mi MIX 2, Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi A2 as well. There are a lot of others as well, however, the Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition is now receiving a stable Android Pie with MIUI 10 update in China. This comes days after an MIUI 10 beta was initiated for the Mi 8 Pro in China.
Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition MIUI 10 (Android Pie) Features
As per a new report from Chinese sources, the update arrives with build number MIUI v10.1.2.0.PEACNFI and weighs a massive 2.1 GB. There isn’t a detailed changelog but you can spot some cool features that were previously unavailable. Android Pie with MIUI 10 brings some refreshing new features to these two (Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition) high-end devices.

First off, there’s the addition of 960fps slow-motion video capture. This was a feature highlighted in the brand new flagship Mi MIX 3 and now it’s no more exclusive to it. It’s also likely that the same feature will also hit the Mi 8 Pro as its hardware will support it.
The other big feature is Super Night Scene that is said to enhance low-light photography. It is similar to Google’s Night Sight but obviously can’t be expected to work as better as Google’s solution.
Besides these new features, Android Pie on MIUI 10 is designed to work in symbiosis with the notch. This addresses issues in some cases where elements in the status bar were misplaced due to the notch.
Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition MIUI 10 (Android Pie) Bug Fixes
Another key feature of the update is bug fixes. Apparently, the dual-camera Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition suffered from screen flickering issues that resulted in the UI freezing during operation. Apart from these handy new additions, users can also expect smoother system operation, improved battery life, and limited idle applications.
The update is currently being rolled out in phases. Do note that the smartphone should be charged sufficiently (ideally up to 50 percent) before hitting the update button. Users should also check their storage to see if there is enough space for the update. Lastly, if the update doesn’t arrive as OTA, Mi 8/Mi 8 Explorer Edition users can navigate to the settings menu to check manually.
The Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition are flagship smartphones of 2018 from Xiaomi. Although the duo hasn’t arrived in India, they boast some of the latest specifications including the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and a 6.21-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED panel. In fact, these are two exact same phones with the Explorer Edition boasting a different transparent back and an on-screen fingerprint reader. That is why both the handsets have received similar new features. Xiaomi has recently updated the Mi MIX 2s with similar features and in the past two weeks also announced that the Mi A1 will also be receiving Android Pie soon.
