Moto Z4 Play Renders Show off Waterdrop Display Notch, Single Rear Camera, Moto Mod Support

If you take a look at the Moto Z series section on the Motorola India website, you will notice that the latest handset listed there is the Moto Z2 Force. It is quite plausible that most of you reading this may have not even heard of this phone! That, however, is definitely not your fault because, in tech terms, the Moto Z2 Force is almost two generations old – having been around since July 2017.  That was around the time OnePlus came up with the OnePlus 5. Anyway, more than 18 months after the previous Moto Z series handset was launched, Motorola is finally planning to update the lineup. The company is reportedly on the verge of coming up with a new handset called the Moto Z4 Play in the next few months.

Let us now take a closer look at the Moto Z4 Play.

Moto Z4 Play: What we know so far

First images of what is being touted as the new Moto Z4 Force has appeared on the web. The images were leaked by Indian price comparison website CompareRaja in collaboration with tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, famously known by his Twitter handle, OnLeaks.

Before we add anything further, here’s an image gallery full of images of the new Moto Z4 Play.

Now that you have seen the device, it is evident that the Z4 Play features a waterdrop notch on the front display. While there is no word if this panel is of the AMOLED or LCD kind, what we do know is that it measures 6.2-inches across. The Z4 Play gets a single camera set up at the rear with a prominent camera bump. This is quite atypical of a mid-range/high-end device most of which feature dual or triple cameras at the rear. The front facing camera housed around the waterdrop notch is also a single camera unit. The rear camera also gets an LED flash for low light shots.

The rear panel also has a Moto Mod connector which is used to connect Moto Mod accessories to the handset. While not confirmed, the phone is also expected to largely come with support for 5G networks making it one of the first handsets from a mainstream manufacturer to support 5G. It is also evident from the images that the handset gets a USB Type-C connector at the bottom. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack.

Let us now take a look at the 360-degree video of the Moto Z4 Play.

Moto  Z4 Play: Possible launch dates, pricing

It is simply too early to comment about the pricing and launch dates of the handset since we still do not know what processor Motorola plans to use on the Moto Z4 Play. It is quite possible that it will feature a flagship-grade Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. It is also possible that the handset would be showcased on or after CES 2019.
