Finnish smartphone giant Nokia and its licensee HMD Global has scheduled an event on February 24 at Barcelona where brand new Nokia branded smartphones could be announced. As you might be aware, this event coincides with this year’s Mobile World Congress which is set to begin on 25th February this year. Nokia is also known to traditionally announce new handsets during every MWC. It is currently rumored that Nokia is likely to unveil its much talked about flagship class handset, the Nokia 9 PureView at the February 24 event. However, the Nokia 9 would almost definitely not be the only thing the company would announce at this event. Fresh reports – thanks to a leak by folks from over at SlashLeaks and TigerMobiles indicate that Nokia is likely to also announce a new entry-level handset – currently referred to as the Nokia 1 Plus on the same day. Let us now check out what the spec sheet and other features of the Nokia 1 Plus are.
Nokia 1 Plus: Expected specifications, features
As evident from the naming scheme of the device, the Nokia 1 Plus is an entry-level handset from the company. It is likely to be a slightly improved version of the Nokia 1 that was announced last year and will be positioned below the Nokia 2, also launched last year. As of now, leaked specifications of the handset along with the renders indicate the possibility of the phone getting a slightly larger display than the Nokia 1. Like its predecessor, the Nokia 1 Plus will also come with an entry-level Mediatek chipset with just 1GB of RAM. Leaked specifications indicate that this chipset would be the MT6739 SoC that was announced back in 2017 for budget Android devices. This chipset houses a quad-core processor based on the Cortex A-53 architecture with all four cores clocked at up to 1.5 Ghz. This SoC also integrates an LTE modem to ensure that the handset supports VoLTE networks. For graphics, the MT6739 gets the PowerVR GE8100 GPU clocked at 570 MHz. The chipset also integrates an 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi adapter.

The Nokia 1 Plus is likely to feature a larger display than the 4.5-inch panel we saw on the Nokia 1 last year. The display resolution is expected to be slightly better at 480 x 960 pixels (compared to 480 x 854 pixels on the Nokia 1). This translates to a PPI density score of 213. There is currently no information about the battery capacity of the device. It is, however, likely to be equal to or larger than the 2150 mAh battery we saw on the Nokia 1. We also currently do not know about the camera specifications of the Nokia 1 Plus. The older Nokia 1, however, came with a 5-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Nokia 1 Plus: Software, expected price in India
Like almost all other Nokia devices, the Nokia 1 Plus too will run a stock version of Android. In case of the Nokia 1 Plus in particular, the phone will run Android 9 Pie – the newest stable version of Android in the Android Go format. In case you aren’t aware, Android Go is a stripped down, basic version of Android designed to work on entry-level devices. It is pertinent to note that most other handsets in this price range will usually run Android 8.1 Oreo or even older versions of Android. The Nokia 1 Plus could be launched in India with a price tag of around INR 5000. This, however, is mere speculation at this point.
