Huawei recently announced the launch of a new handset called the Huawei P Smart Pro in several countries across Europe. Going by its naming scheme, The P Smart Pro seems to be a natural successor to the Huawei P Smart+ 2019 that was launched earlier this year. Upon closer inspection, however, you will realize that this handset is just a rebadged version of the Huawei Y9s that was announced only a few weeks ago. To make matters even more confusing, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor sells this same phone as the Honor 9X in some markets. The only difference between the 9X and the P Smart Pro is the change in the position of the fingerprint scanner. Let us now take a quick glance at the specifications and key features of this handset.
Huawei P Smart Pro Specifications, features
The Huawei P Smart Pro is significantly larger in size than the P Smart+ 2019 and features a near 6.6-inch display compared to the formers 6.21-inch panel. Huawei has cut corners in terms of display tech on the P Smart Pro and employs a TFT LCD panel here with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels in the 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display does not have a notch since it comes with a pop-up mechanism to house the front-facing camera.
The P Smart Pro comes powered by the tried and tested – and now aging – HiSilicon Kirin 710F SoC, which literally powers every budget Huawei and Honor devices currently out in the market. This SoC houses an octa-core processor with four Cortex A-73 cores and 4 Cortex A-53 cores. It is offered in a single variant that gets 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot for expanding the storage.
The camera setup on the Huawei P Smart Pro consists of triple rear cameras and a single front-facing pop-up selfie camera. The primary camera at the rear uses a 48MP sensor and is mated to an f/1.8 lens. The secondary camera here uses an 8MP sensor that works in tandem with an f/2.4 ultrawide lens. Then there is the 2MP depth sensor, which gets its own f/2.4 lens. At the front, the phone gets a 16MP fixed focus camera with f/2.2 aperture. As the case is with most Huawei handsets, the cameras come with a host of AI-base scene recognition features.
The P Smart Pro gets a reasonably large 4,000 mAh battery, but ships with a standard 10W charger and does not seem to offer support for any form of fast charging. The handset does get a USB Type-C slot, though. Other connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3.5mm jack. The handset runs EMUI 9, which is based on Android 9 Pie. There is no word if the phone would receive an official nod for Android 10 thanks to Huawei’s complex relationship with Google following the recent trade war.
Huawei P Smart Pro pricing, and availability
As of now, the Huawei P Smart Pro seems to be headed for select European markets that include countries like Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Ukraine, among others. The phone will be sold for $360 in most markets. It comes in two color options; Midnight Black and Breathing Crystal. Will the Huawei P Smart Pro ever make it to India? We do not know for sure.
