Netflix is planning to offer a free trial of its service to everyone in India. Yes, you read that right! The streaming platform will provide full access to its long list of shows and movies for free for two days. Netflix Chief Product Officer Greg Peters revealed this information during the company’s earnings call on Tuesday. Netflix offers 30-day free trial to let new users use its service before opting for a subscription. However, earlier this month, the company ended the free trial service in the US. CPO Peters said revealed about the new StreamFest offer will be available in India. “We think that giving everyone in country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have,” said Peters as reported by Protocol. “Really creating an event, and hopefully get a bunch of those folks to sign up.”
The new StreamFest offer will be made live on December 4 and users in India can access the site for free for two days. “We’re always looking at different marketing promotions to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience,” a Netflix spokesperson told the publication.
As of now, in order to avail 30-day free trial, customers need to enter their credit card numbers. However, with this offer, there will be no such requirement. To recall, Netflix offers different types of subscription. The Basic plan comes with a price tag of Rs 500 and offers streaming from one device at a time in standard definition. Then there is Standard HD plan for Rs 650 that allows users to stream SD content on two devices. The company also offers a Premium Ultra HD plan for Rs 799 that offers HD and Ultra HD video quality. One stream the content across four devices at a time.
