From Money Heist to Extraction: Here’s What Indian Users Watched the Most on Netflix This Year

Netflix has revealed that India has the highest viewing of films on its platform globally. The company has revealed that Raat Akeli Hai, Extraction, Malang, and The Old Guard were the most popular films. Moreover, the company says that viewing for non-fiction series on the streaming platform in India grew more than 250 per cent this year over 2019. Here’s what you need to know about what Indian users watched the most on Netflix this year.

Most Watched Films on Netflix This Year

As per the company, 80 per cent of the users in India watched a film every week in 2020. The most popular film on the platform was Raat Akeli Hai. Extraction, Malang, and The Old Guard were among the most popular action films, while Ludo was the most popular comedy film in the country. Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (Telugu), Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal (Tamil), Kappela (Malayalam), and Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya (Telugu) are among many other films that featured in India’s Top 10 row.

India Loved Non-fiction series and Documentary!

Netflix has revealed that viewing for non-fiction series on Netflix grew more than 250 per cent in 2020 over 2019. This simply means that Indian users loved to watch non-fiction series on the platform. Too Hot to Handle, Indian Matchmaking and the recently released Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives were among the most popular non-fiction shows. Documentary viewing also grew more than 100% in 2020 over 2019, and Bad Boy Billionaires, The Social Dilemma and Money Heist: The Phenomenon were the most popular documentaries on Netflix in India this year.

International series that was popular in India

The German series Dark is one of the best foreign-language series on Netflix followed by the Money Heist. Dark was on the Top 10 row in India for 95 days and Money Heist featured on Top 10 list for 170 days. Interestingly, Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back-Evolution, Blood of Zeus and One-Punch Man (S2) were the most popular anime titles in India this year.

Indian admired strong female leads

The company has also revealed that Indian viewers admired strong female characters across different genres and formats. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl was the most popular drama film in 2020 on the streaming platform. The other popular films and series in India this year included Guilty, Masaba Masaba, Bulbbul, She, Miss India and Never Have I Ever and Emily in Paris.

Apart from this, Love Aaj Kal, Ginny Weds Sunny and Mismatched were some of the most popular romantic films and series. For Kids, the viewing increased more than 100 per cent in India in 2020. Over The Moon was the most popular kids’ title on Netflix. Other shows included The Willoughbys and Boss Baby: Back in Business (S4), Feel The Beat, Mighty Little Bheem, and more.
