Valve Accidentally Leaks Its Steam Broadcasting For Dota 2 Tournament

American video game developer, Valve has accidentally divulged it’s latest Steam Broadcasting like the ‘Twitch’. The live video streaming platform known be for the Dota 2 tournament of the company.

Valve recently made the mistake of letting everyone know that it is working on improving the Steam Broadcasting feature, which is similar to Twitch. Last week, Steam.tv came online briefly. That revealed the company’s new streaming site which looks like it is being created exclusively for the Dota 2 tournament.

In an official statement from the company to The Verge, regarding the inadvertent leak, it said that the company is working on upgrading the Steam Broadcasting for Dota 2’s Annual for the Main Event of the International. The clarification further stated that what the public got to see was only a test feed of the same.

Valve’s Steam Broadcasting

The latest Steam Broadcasting is being launched just in time for the annual eSports tournament Dota 2. It is the biggest eSports event globally, thanks especially, to the ginormous prize fund of more than $24 million. Therefore, it seems like a strategic decision by Valve to introduce its very own streaming service.

Valve introduces Steam Link app for Android and iOS

At first look, the new broadcasting feature by Steam looks rather rudimentary. Also, it is limited to only Dota 2. That means logging in using the Steam ID will give the user access to only the group chats and the friend list. As per tech site CNET, the user can currently watch a stream with friends or chat but they can’t sign in and stream their own Steam game for others to view.

Valve has not hinted towards any future plans regarding expanding beyond streaming of Dota 2 games. But Twitch has plenty of competition already. Microsoft’s Mixer and Google’s Youtube Gaming are two such competitors. They are more than a match for Twitch as not only do they allow their users to watch other broadcast titles but the users can also stream their own gaming.
