India’s Move towards the Telecommunication Future
Where other telecom operators of the country are still busy focusing their energies on monetising their 4G capabilities, several leading firms have tied their hopes with BSNL for leading the charge in the 5G segment.
As per Shrivastava, minister of communication, Manoj Sinha proactively attended global meetings regarding 5G. His lead, created opportunities for the company, on which the telco capitalised and signed agreements to bring-in the next-gen technology to the country. Test cases are being finalised, says Shrivastava, by BSNL, to explore the possible working sites for 5G in India.
The company, as per Shrivastava, is in the advanced stages of preparing for field trials for the 5G technology. With the Government agreeing to provide BSNL with 5G spectrum specifically for the trials, the telco will begin the field trials pretty soon.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is proposing an auction of telecom frequencies of around 8,644 MHz at an approximate starting price of Rs.4.9 lakh crores. The Government has yet to decide on how to allocate 5G services spectrum.
