Nokia 7.1 and 7.1 Plus (X7) to Reportedly Sport Snapdragon 710 SOC; Launch Could be on October 4?

You have to hand it to HMD Global, the company has restored the Nokia brand to the greatness it once was by embracing the Android platform. The company could be looking to line up some new Nokia devices in the form of the Nokia X7/7.1 Plus that have been leaked out in multiple renders to date.

Today the devices have seen yet another leak from NokiaPowerUser that claims one of its sources has discovered that HMD will be actually launching two devices with both being powered by a Snapdragon 710. In addition to the Nokia 7.1 Plus (also known as the Nokia X7 in some regions), HMD Global will be releasing a smaller device called Nokia 7.1 as the successor to the Nokia 7. Both devices will be sporting a design that sees HMD Global embrace the notch, which seems to be the thing of 2018.

But now a tip from one of our known tipsters claims that HMD may be planning to launch not one but two Nokia smartphones powered by Snapdragon 710. One of them Nokia 7.1 will be the spiritual successor to the Nokia 7 and may come without a notch. While Nokia 7.1 Plus aka Nokia X7 will come sporting a notch again powered by Snapdragon 710.

In addition, both the Nokia 7.1 and 7.1 Plus could be set to see a Zeiss-branded dual-camera on the rear of the device that will be launched first in China and later to the rest of the world. The presence of a Zeiss lens isn’t surprising given Nokia’s long-standing relationship with the brand that has seen the lens incorporated on some of its other devices. The result is certain to yield some impressive results with the high-quality lens but relies on the camera software being up to scratch to take advantage of the hardware.

We previously exclusively leaked the Nokia 7.1 Plus renders and full 360-degree video that showcased the look of the new device.

Nokia 7.1 Plus: Leaked Renders

The smaller Nokia 7.1 will likely follow the same design, look, and feel of the bigger device but with a smaller screen and smaller battery. Both are set to be powered by the same Snapdragon 710 processor.

Looking back at our scoop:

The Nokia 7.1 Plus sure looks premium, but it has a fairly large chin at the bottom with the Nokia logo printed on it. There is a notch at the top of the front panel. The rear panel of the phone is quite glossy, thanks to the glass-and-metal build that is Nokia’s favorite this year. On the back, we also see a vertically placed dual-camera setup and an LED flash. There is a fingerprint scanner below the camera unit at the rear. We can also see a USB Type-C port at the bottom along with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Our source also revealed that the phone will measure 149.8×71.2×8.0 mm and its screen size will be between 5.7-inches or 5.8-inches (since it’s harder to measure screens with curved corners)

We’re not too sure what the screen size of the Nokia 7.1 will be but will probably be in the region of the 5.2-inches.

Nokia 7.1 and 7.1 Plus: Price, Launch Date

The Nokia 7.1 Plus is expected to be priced under $350 globally (Rs. 25,000 in the Indian market) and the Nokia 7.1 will be priced less than that, possibly for around $250 (Rs. 18,000). There’s no word on when the device will be available in India but we’ve seen media invites for an event on October 4th, but this could be for the global release of Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus.
