There is some exciting news in store for all Jio fans, as the company has come out with a major announcement. In the biggest sporting deal in the company’s short history, it has announced a partnership with Star India to live stream all of the Indian National Cricket Team’s games.
Exclusive deal with Star India:
The announcement is a big step forward for the telecom major, which has been India’s largest growing telecom company for the past year or so. It has made significant inroads into both urban and rural markets with its services. Using this large and growing consumer base, the company has also popularized its native digital steaming app, Reliance Jio TV.
Reliance Jio TV is a complementary app, which is offered to its users as a part of the Reliance Jio’s telecom services. This allows users to stream digital content from several popular TV channels.
While the service is certainly a great proposition to Reliance Jio’s users and duplicates Airtel Digital TV well, the downside is the unavailability of many live shows and events, which users had to watch through other premium subscriptions. However, the company changed the trend with the introduction of free streaming services for India’s premier sporting event, the IPL 2018. Users could watch IPL 2018 matches for free using their Reliance Jio TV app. The only cost incurred by them is the cost of mobile data,
Similarly, the company has now expanded horizons and come out with a much bigger deal that could increase its viewership by several folds. The deal is a great one for both collaborators, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. as well as Star India. Jio has partnered up with Star India to stream all games played by the Indian National Cricket Team, which are televised, on both Reliance Jio TV as well as Hotstar. Both these services will be available only for users in India.
While Hostar is a premium digital streaming platform and automatically stream all games that Star India broadcasts on TV, Reliance Jio TV is a free service that is exclusively offered to all users of Reliance Jio.
The streaming of all Indian Cricket matches is an exclusive feature, which will not only enable Reliance Jio to sell more mobile data and plans to users but will also widen its subscriber base, as users will certainly switch over to Reliance Jio’s low-cost services, especially with the bundled in free cricket streaming.

What does the deal include?
The streaming deal secured by Jio with Star India seems to be a very comprehensive one. Firstly, the deal has been signed for a period of five years, so all games in this timeframe can be streamed on Reliance Jio TV. The partnership constitutes all games played by the India Cricket team including T-20 internationals (T20I), One Day Internationals (ODI), International Test Cricket and Premier Domestic Competitions of BCCI (which includes the Indian Premier League – IPL).
The company’s director, Akash Ambani commented on the partnership “Every Indian must have access to the best sporting events as well as quality and affordable bandwidth to consume the content. With this partnership, we intend to address both these objectives of providing the best sporting content with the best digital infrastructure to Jio users. Jio will continue to bring a superlative customer experience in the areas of sports, augmented reality, virtual reality, immersive viewing and more in the coming days”.
