After years of dwindling, the PC sales may see, even if marginal, an upswing next year, believe experts. As per Canalys, leading global tech market analyst company, after a slump of seven years, the shipment of two-in-ones, notebooks, and desktops is set to witness an increase of 0.3 percent.
Regions and Reasons Driving Sales
After saturating the markets of China and Europe, it is the emerging markets of Asia Pacific that will be the key region driving sales for PCs. The other reason for driving next year’s sales besides the increase in demand from the particular region is the various upgrade projects Windows 10 has made in its business applications.
According to Alastair Edwards, Chief Analyst, Canalys, in 2019, Windows 10 refresh will be the main reason why the commercial demand for PCs will see an upswing. Besides that, the business spending in the US and the economic performance of the company will be giving the PC market a push in the largest global market for PCs. In addition to these two reasons, the PC sales will also go up because of recent heightened IT security anxieties, a general push has been made towards upgrading the hardware.
Analysts Analyze the Trend
According to analysts, the tech industry has benefited because of the upgrade projects run by Windows 10 this year. PC sales and professional services have both seen an increase around Windows 10 migration. But they also agree on the fact that this uptrend won’t last beyond the 1st half of the new year.
Edwards believes that there will be an ease in the constraints placed on the supply of components. In 2019, the issues plaguing the industry will be resolved and the pent-up demand of 2018 will what will drive the sales in 2019. Besides Canalys, Gartner, another tech analyst, also predicted a slight growth in the PC market. According to him, the shipment for PCs increased to 14% in Q2 ended September this year, which is the first growth this segment has witnessed since 2012.
The Reason for PC Market Saturation
The market for PCs has been witnessing a decline for a number of years. Consumers are not upgrading their PCs too often. Also, tablets and smartphones have replaced the need for a PC as the main computing gadget. Therefore, PC has been relegated to being used occasionally only.
