In order to keep up with the industry standards, smartphone makers launch devices one after the other without wasting any time. Recently, Chinese smartphone makers like Xiaomi, Honor, and Vivo have launched an entire budget series along with some premium-grade devices that are immediate successors to some of the best-selling smartphones. Realme has also launched its second smartphone in India and is now gearing up to launch the ‘pro’ version of the device. Today, we are weeding out some of the earlier options for you. Let’s check out if the following smartphones are still worth buying.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2
The Redmi Y2 is a decent option for a budget smartphone, but the new releases from Xiaomi have raised the bar. The Redmi Y2 features 5.99-inch LCD display, an HD+ resolution, with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, combined with the Adreno 506 GPU. For storage, there is a 3GB RAM + 32GB model, priced at Rs. 9,999 and a 4GB RAM + 32GB model, which is priced at Rs. 12,999.

In comparison, we have the new Redmi 6 Pro which features better display specifications and a better battery capacity. The smartphone features a 5.84-inch IPS LCD Full-screen display featuring 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The battery on the device reads 4000mAh. In terms of performance, both the Redmi Y2 and the Redmi 6 Pro pack the same internals. The devices also feature the same 12MP + 5MP dual camera set up at the back, but the Redmi 6 Pro comes with PDAF. The selfie camera on the Redmi Y2 is a better 16MP unit. The device is priced at Rs.10,999 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant and Rs.12,999 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. The overall specifications lean in favor of the Redmi 6 Pro.
Honor 9 Lite

The Honor 9 Lite is succeeded by the Honor 9N which packs better 5.84 inches display with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Both the devices are powered by the same HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset. The dual camera set up at the back is also the same, comprising of 13MP+2MP sensors. However, the Honor 9N gets a single 16MP front camera and the Honor 9 Lite flaunts the same set of cameras on the front as well. The Honor 9 Lite and the Honor 9N have similar things to offer. If you already own the Honor 9 Lite, you don’t need to switch to the Honor. But, if you are looking to choose between the two, you can go for the Honor 9N as it comes with a notch and at a slightly lower price.
Vivo Y81
The Vivo Y81 features a 6.22-inch IPS panel display with HD+1520 x 720 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It also features a notch. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 processor, combined with the PowerVR GE8320 for handling graphics. The device comes in a single storage variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage.

There is a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP camera at the front. The battery reads 3260mAh. After a recent price cut, you get all this for Rs. 11,990, which is not the best bet. If you don’t own it, don’t buy it. There are plenty of better options out there.
Realme 1

The Realme 2 was recently launched in India and the company has kept the same price for the smartphone as that of its predecessor, Realme 1. The Realme 1 sports a 6-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. Its successor features a slightly larger 6.2-inch screen but a lower 720 x 1520 pixels resolution. In terms of the performance, the Realme 1 a 12nm MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz with an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, while the Realme 2 gets a Qualcomm SDM450 Snapdragon 450 octa-core Processor with Adreno 506 GPU. The Realme 2 is certainly not leading the hardware department. But the smartphone gets a better 4,230mAh battery pack in comparison to the 3,410mAh battery of the Realme 1. Also, the Realme 1 does not feature a dual-camera set up like its successor.
Realme 2 is a decent smartphone and has some advantages over the Realme 1. But, the Realme 1 with its 1080p display and a decent processor is still a good choice. You can also wait for the upcoming Realme 2 Pro, which looks promising.
Redmi 5A

The Redmi 5A is one of the best selling-smartphones from the Chinese handset maker. Its successor, the Redmi 6A comes with significant upgrades in the display department and a has a slightly better processor than its predecessor, the Redmi 5A still remains popular. The Redmi 6A is powered by a 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio A22 quad-core processor, while the Redmi 5A is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor. The camera on both the devices is the same 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie snapper. The other specifications remain the same as well. While the Redmi 6A is a decent phone, you can still go for the Redmi 5A over the Redmi 6A.
