Redmi Note 6 Pro: Is Xiaomi’s MIUI Phone a Better Pick Over the Realme U1, ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2?

There are plenty of smartphones to choose from under INR 15,000.  However, when we shortlist the smartphones that offer the best overall performance, it comes down to three devices – the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, and the Realme U1. So, if you are planning to buy a smartphone under INR 15,000, which one should you go with among the three? Let’s find out.

Display

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 have a 6.26-inch IPS LCD with Full HD+ resolution and a traditional notch. The Realme U1, on the other hand, offers a 6.3-inch IPS LCD with Full HD+ resolution, and a waterdrop notch. As for the display protection, the Redmi Note 6 Pro offers an unspecified version of Gorilla Glass. The Realme U1 offers Gorilla Glass 3 protection, whereas, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with the latest, Gorilla Glass 6.

As you can see, the display of the Realme U1 has an advantage over that of other two smartphones in terms of size and notch shape. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, on the other hand, has an advantage over that of the other two smartphones in terms of display protection. For most Indian consumers the display protection matters more. Therefore, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 wins in the display section followed by the Realme U1. The Redmi Note 6 Pro comes in the last position.

Camera

Starting with the front-facing cameras, the Redmi Note 6 Pro is the only smartphone to offer a dual-camera setup. It has a 20MP + 2MP configuration. As for the other two smartphones, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 has a 13MP camera, and the Realme U1 has a 25MP camera. Don’t let the resolution fool you. All three smartphones in spite of having different cameras offer a similar image quality. Let us have a look at the rear cameras now.

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 and the Redmi Note 6 Pro offer a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup. The Realme U1, on the other hand, features a slightly inferior, 13MP + 2MP configuration. As for the video recording, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 can record 4K videos, while the other two smartphones cannot. The Realme U1 comes last here as it neither has image quality as good as that of the other two smartphones nor does it have 4K video recording. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro puts out good image quality, but it lacks 4K video recording. Therefore, it scores the second position. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes out on top here as it offers excellent image quality and the 4K video recording as well.

Processor, RAM, Storage, and OS

When it comes to processing power, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is the clear winner here, as it comes with the most powerful processor, the Snapdragon 660. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro packs the second most powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 636. Last comes the Realme U1 with its MediaTek P70 SoC. It is not that the MediaTek P70 has less processing power. On the contrary, it has more processing power than the Snapdragon 636. However, its GPU is weak. So, when you compare the Snapdragon 636 and the MediaTek P70, the former offers better overall performance.

Today, we are testing 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of all three smartphones, as that is the highest configuration you get under INR 15,000 for all three smartphones. However, these three devices are also available in the following configuration – The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes in three configurations; 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro comes in two configurations; 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. The Realme U1 also comes in two variants; 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage

Coming to the OS, all three smartphones run on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. However, there UI differs. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has MIUI 9 user interface. The Realme U1 has ColorOS 5.2 user interface. Whereas, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 has the stock Android user interface. Although looks are subjective, I think most people would agree that ColorOS 5.2 looks outdated and unrefined. The MIUI 9, on the other hand, looks modern and packs all the features. Although the stock Android user interface lacks the additional features of MIUI 9, it has a clean design and less bloatware.

Battery

As you might have figured out, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 wins the battery section by a wide margin. Thanks to its massive 5000mAh battery. There is no doubt that the Zenfone Max Pro M2 will provide two days of battery power under normal usage. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro takes the second position here with its 4000mAh battery. The Realme U1 has the smallest battery here – a 3500mAh unit. Therefore, it scores the last spot in the battery section.

Verdict

As you can see, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 offers the best display, camera, performance, and battery among all three smartphones. Therefore, it is undoubtedly the best smartphone among the three. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro loses out to the Realme U1 in the display section, but in every other aspect, it beats the Realme U1. As a result, it manages to come in at second place. This leaves the Realme U1 in the last position.

There is one thing I would like to mention. Although the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is the best smartphone in its price segment, the Redmi Note 6 Pro is not too behind either. It loses by a tiny margin when you consider that the Redmi Note 6 Pro costs INR 1,000 less than the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, it makes a decent choice for someone who is on a tight budget.
