April Fools Day 2019 Top 5 Pranks by Tech Brands: Nokia 9 X-Ray, OnePlus Car, Ola Restrooms, and More

Its that time of year again where folks play amusing pranks on unassuming victims for no real reason. Tech brands seem to enjoy getting in on the fun, albeit with some cringeworthy attempts every now and then. This year, Microsoft decided to retire from the April Fool’s Day tradition, but that hasn’t stopped other corporations from goofing around. Here are a few such jokes by top brands we just had to let you in on.

Google Screen Cleaner

Google’s attempts at April Fool’s gags in the past have been iconic. This year, the brand is at it again by adding the ability to clean your phone’s screen from the outside with the use of its Files application. Files by Google is known to be a great tool for removing unused apps and removing clutter from your phone’s storage. Now, the app will also help you clean the phone from the outside. With the smudge detector API, the phone can recognize residues and imperfections on the display’s surface and shakes them off with intelligently targeted micromovements. Then Screen Cleaner will use the phone’s vibrating motor and haptic controls to create a non-stick shield

Google Maps Snake

Google Maps Snake Game April Fool's 2019

To keep the fun going, Google added the ability to play a Snakes game within Google Maps. In the game, you can ‘ssslither’ your way across various locations over the world including Cairo, London, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Sydney, and Tokyo. The game is fairly simple to find – open Maps, hit the menu icon, and tap on the ‘Play Snakes’ button. Even if the game disappears from Maps in the future, its dedicated site should remain up.

OnePlus Warp Car

OnePlus, the leading smartphone maker has decided to take on Tesla with the release of the OnePlus Warp Car. This is an electric super can that seamlessly integrates your OnePlus smartphone to perform key automobile functions. First off, your phone’s screen replaces the traditional steering wheel, as swipe gestures can be used for controlling the car. OnePlus says an OTA update will bring over airplane mode so that you don’t accidentally turn the car around when swiping away a pesky notification. For lights, the phone’s flash can be used for both internal and external lighting with the use of light tunnels and mirrors. Another feature OnePlus added to its new car is called the OnePlus Warp Car Charge which provides a day’s charge in just 20 minutes.

OnePlus recommends the driver’s height to be a minimum of 5ft 6in to be able to reach the pedals. Also, because of the way the car is designed, people taller than 5ft 8in will not be able to fit.

Ola Restrooms

For a generation that is always on the go, Ola is solving a conundrum that has always gotten the best of anyone with a weak bladder control. Introducing Ola Restrooms, a mobile washroom with all the functionalities you ever need. So if you really really need to go, an Ola Restroom is just a tap away.

Nokia 9 PureView X-Ray

The Nokia 9 PureView has been in the limelight for quite some time due to Nokia’s audacity of including five cameras at the back. However, keen-eyed individuals soon pointed out how the camera placement left out a black spot that did not seem to bear any discernible hardware. To end the debate once and for all, Juho Sarvikas, the CPO of HMD Global sent out a tweet to inform curious fans that the blacked out sensor is, in fact, an X-ray sensor. According to Sarvikas, the ability to take X-rays straight from the phone will be unlocked with the release of the Nokia X-Ray app in the Play Store.
