Huawei Nova 5i AnTuTu Benchmark Reveals Key Specifications, Expected to Launch Soon

A new Huawei device has been spotted on AnTuTu benchmark. The device comes bearing the model number GLK-LX3. According to AnTuTu and various reports online, this new device is the upcoming Huawei Nova 5i.

According to the hardware information collected by AnTuTu benchmark, the alleged Nova 5i features Kirin 710 SoC, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, Android 9 Pie operating system, and a display with 2310 x 1080 pixels resolution. The device scored 1,31,715 points in the AnTuTu benchmark reconfirming that the device indeed has the Kirin 710 SoC. Unfortunately, that’s all the information there is as for now.

Recently, the alleged Nova 5i visited GeekBench and scored 1538 points in single-core CPU performance, and 5388 points in multi-core CPU performance. The score is similar to that of the Kirin 710. This further confirms that the Nova 5i will have a Kirin 710 SoC. The alleged upcoming Nova 5i has also visited FCC and TCC confirming that it will have a 3900mAh battery, 10W charging, and 4GB RAM + 128GB configuration on offer.

Huawei Nova 5i Expected Launch Date and Specifications

The Huawei Nova 5i is expected to launch alongside the Huawei Nova 5 in June this year.

The smartphone will most probably feature an IPS LCD with a screen size of 6-inches and above. The display will most likely have a U-shaped notch or a punch-hole for the front-facing camera. While the 4GB + 64GB configuration is already confirmed through AnTuTu benchmark, the Nova 5i could come in 4GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration as NCC certification suggests. The battery capacity is still unknown. However, in my opinion, the battery capacity could be around 4000mAh.

The smartphone could have a triple-camera setup at the rear, where, the first camera sensor could have a conventional FoV, the second camera sensor could be an ultra-wide unit, and the third camera sensor could be a telephoto unit. Considering that the Kirin 710 supports 4K video recording, the Nova 5i’s camera should feature 4K video recording. As for the front-facing camera, it could be the same 16MP unit found on most other low-end and mid-range Huawei smartphones.

Xiaomi Mi 9T Could be the Rebranded Redmi K20; Leaked Specifications, Real-life Image Suggest

Xiaomi launched the Redmi K20 in China a few days back. And since then we’ve been hearing that, in markets outside China, the Redmi K20 will launch as Mi 9T or Poco F2 depending upon the region. Well, today there has been a new development to that rumor. A user has shared retail box and live hands-on images of a K20-lookalike smartphone claiming that it is the Mi 9T.

Mi 9T leaked retail box and hands-on images

As you can see in the image showing the retail box of the Mi 9T, the smartphone has an elevating front-facing camera. Whereas, in the hands-on image of the device, you can see that the display has a peel-off leaflet, advertising that the smartphone features a triple-camera setup including a 48MP camera sensor, a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, a 4000mAh battery with 18W fast charging, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset.

All the specifications that these leaked images reveal for the alleged Mi 9T match with that of the Redmi K20, confirming that the Mi 9T will indeed be the rebranded Redmi K20.

What About the Redmi K20 Pro Then?

You might be thinking if the Redmi K20 launches as Mi 9T or Poco F2, then what about the Redmi K20 Pro? What will it be named in markets outside China? Well, there is no official report yet, but the word on the street is that the K20 Pro will launch as the Mi 9T Pro or the Poco F2 Pro depending upon the region. Yes, I know, there is a lot of confusion with these names and model number. It would have been better if Xiaomi launched the device with a single name around the globe. However, Xiaomi is naming its devices strategically. For example, if the Poco series is popular in India, Xiaomi will launch devices under the Poco sub-brand. Same goes with the Redmi.

The Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro are expected to launch in markets outside China in the coming weeks. The India launch of the K20 and the K20 Pro could happen sometime around July. The K20 is expected to launch in India with a starting price of around INR 16,999, whereas, the K20 Pro is likely to come with a starting price tag of INR 21,999.

Microsoft Xbox Game Pass comes to PC: All you need to know

One of the best things to happen to the Xbox two years ago was a little service called Xbox Game Pass. It gives gamers access to more than a hundred games for a monthly fee. The service includes all Xbox first party games at launch. Game Pass is now making its debut to the PC. Rather than being called the PC Game Pass, Microsoft is still calling the service Xbox Game Pass, which leads many to think that their service from the console could be carried forward to the PC. Whether this is the case or not isn't clear as the release doesn't detail a price for the service nor a launch date. It also doesn't highlight whether the PC version of the Xbox Game Pass will be bundled with Game Pass Unlimited. For those unaware, Game Pass Unlimited gives users Xbox Live Gold subscription and Xbox Game Pass subscription in one roof. More information about the new service will come at E3 2019.

Coming back to Xbox Game Pass for the PC, the service will give players unlimited access to a curated library of more than 100 PC games on Windows 10. The list of developers that will support the service includes Bethesda, Deep Silver, Devolver Digital, Paradox Interactive, SEGA, and more. Microsoft has said that titles from newly acquired studios like Obsidian and inXile will also be available to Game Pass subscribers on the PC and the consoles. Microsoft says, “We’re working with over 75 developers and publishers to bring PC content to the service and we’ll ensure the library remains curated and full of great PC titles across a variety of genres, with new games added every month.”

Xbox Game Pass for PC members will also receive the benefits enjoyed by console players. Gamers will get discounts in the Microsoft Store on Windows of up to 20% on games currently in the library and up to 10% off related game DLC and add-ons. Microsoft has also said that they are bringing cross-platform play and cross-network play across Windows 10 PCs and console. Microsoft says, “Building communities across all of those players, regardless of the store or platform they’ve chosen (console or PC), is also vitally important because it helps bring players together, allows games to find their largest audience and allows gaming to deliver its true potential of uniting people around the power of play.”

Microsoft has also said that their first party games will be available in multiple stores, including the Microsoft Store on Windows. The company has said that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will come to PC later this year, launching on Steam in addition to the Microsoft Store on Windows. “We will continue to add to the more than 20 Xbox Game Studios titles on Steam, starting with Gears 5 and all Age of Empires I, II & III: Definitive Editions. We know millions of PC gamers trust Steam as a great source to buy PC games and we’ve heard the feedback that PC gamers would like choice. We also know that there are other stores on PC, and we are working to enable more choice in which store you can find our Xbox Game Studios titles in the future.”

You can read the announcement in details on the Xbox News website here.

Google restricts marijuana facilitating apps on Play Store

Google has updated its content policy for the Play Store and it has now restricted the functioning of all apps that sell or facilitate the sale of marijuana, regardless of legality. According to the new guidelines, "allowing users to order marijuana through an in-app shopping cart feature, assisting users in arranging delivery or pick up of marijuana, and facilitating the sale of products containing THC" are no more allowed on the platform.

Google has apparently pointed out two popular apps, Weedmaps and Eaze, and restricted their functioning. “These apps simply need to move the shopping cart flow outside of the app itself to be compliant with this new policy. We've been in contact with many of the developers and are working with them to answer any technical questions and help them implement the changes without customer disruption,” Android Police quoted Google as saying.

The move is linked to the company’s efforts towards making the Google Play Store safer for children. Google says that it has taken inputs from users and developers and is evolving its Google Play policies to provide additional protections for children and families. “These policy changes build on our existing efforts to ensure that apps for children have appropriate content, show suitable ads, and handle personally identifiable information correctly; they also reduce the chance that apps not intended for children could unintentionally attract them,” Kanika Sachdeva, Product Manager, Google Play, wrote in a blog post.

As part of the new policy, all developers are now required to complete the new target audience and content section of the Google Play Console. For most developers, the target audience does not include children, but if kids are part of an app’s target audience, Google will ask the developers some follow-up questions.

Meanwhile, Eaze has issued a statement claiming that it connects adults only to licensed, regulated cannabis retailers. “In California, and many other markets across the nation, lawmakers have established clear cannabis laws and regulations. Google’s decision is a disappointing development that only helps the illegal market thrive, but we are confident that Google, Apple, and Facebook will eventually do the right thing and allow legal cannabis companies to do business on their platforms. We regret any inconvenience this may cause for customers and patients,” The Verge quoted a company spokesperson as saying.

Samsung has refreshed its smartphone strategy to gain the lost market share. Under the new scheme of things, the company is populating every segment with various smartphones. One such phone is the Galaxy A10e that has now appeared on Geekbench. The phone with model number SM-A102U is seen sporting an Exynos 7884 mobile processor, along with 2GB of RAM. The phone is seen running Android 9 Pie. The phone scores 1,163 points in the Single-Core test and 3,581 points in the Multi-Core test on Geekbench.

Interestingly, the Galaxy A10e scores similar points as the Galaxy A10. The Galaxy A10 has the same Exynos 7884 chipset, which is coupled with up to 3GB RAM. In the case of Galaxy S10 Series, we have seen that Samsung has kept the key hardware in Galaxy S10e same as its larger variants. The main difference is in the display size and the number of cameras. The company is likely to repeat this trend with the Galaxy A10e.

The Samsung Galaxy A10e has already been certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), Wi-Fi Alliance and was also spotted at the FCC website hinting at an imminent launch. The FCC website showed that the phone will have a battery with model number EB-BA202ABU. Reportedly, this battery pack has a 3000mAh capacity - down from 3,400mAh battery of the Galaxy A10.

Sony Xperia F could be a foldable phone with Samsungs flexible OLED display, 5G connectivity

Sony has ceased its smartphone operations in India, and most other regions, to focus on releasing phones in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Europe. The smartphone maker was rumoured to be dropping its Xperia lineup and shift to a new series. However, a new report out of China suggests that the company might be working on a foldable phone called the Xperia F, which could be launched next year. This phone is said to adopt Samsung’s flexible OLED display technology with a 21:9 aspect ratio, which the company’s current flagship Xperia 1 smartphone features. Additionally, the handset is said to support 5G connectivity and the company is expected to announce the Xperia 2 smartphone next year.

While there are no specifics about the Xperia F, the report hints at the growing popularity of foldable phones. Samsung and Huawei have already unveiled their respective foldable phones and while things aren’t looking too good for Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, we are yet to come across any initial impressions of the Huawei Mate X. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is facing harsh criticism as the handset it had sent to reviewers in the US were recalled as their inner display malfunctioned. The company later issued a statement confirming the development, saying that it planned to “announce the release date in the coming weeks.”

Coming back to Sony, the company’s mobile division is being scaled back to reduce losses and drive profits up in the long term. As for the existing Sony smartphone users, the company said that it ceased sales in India in FY18, but will continue to provide customer support operations including after sales support and software updates for existing customers in the country. The company also said that it will be “monitoring the market situation and business feasibility in India”. So, there’s a possibility that the company could resume its operations in India if it finds it viable to do so.

Moto Z4 with Snapdragon 675, 4GB RAM appears on Geekbench

The Moto Z4 has been leaked in the past and now the phone has been spotted on the Geekbench website. It scores 2346 points in Single Core and 6248 points in Multi Core benchmarking tests. The phone is seen featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 mobile platform along with 4GB of RAM. The hardware is in line with previous reports, which also claimed that the phone will ship with 6GB RAM. As per the new listing, the Moto Z4 would run on Android 9 Pie.

The development comes a day after media reports said that the phone, which is yet to be announced officially, was sold to a person via Amazon. The customer who bought the phone even posted a hands-on video after he received the device. The Amazon listing not only confirmed the 6.4-inch display, but also gave information about the type of the panel used. It said that the phone features an OLED FullVision display with a 2,340 x 1080 pixel resolution.

The Moto Z4 is likely to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. In terms of camera, the phone is speculated to sport a single 48MP sensor on the back. On the front is a 25MP sensor housed within a waterdrop notch. The phone is said to pack a 3600mAh battery with 15W TurboCharge support.

Earlier this month, a few images of the Moto Z4 were leaked showing a protruding camera module with a single lens and Motorola’s signature bat-wing logo. On the right edge, the phone is seen sporting a volume rocker and a power button. At the bottom, there is a USB-C port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a microphone. On the top edge, the Z4 has the secondary mic and a SIM card slot along with a speaker.

The images also showed pogo pins on the back, and reportedly, the smartphone will also support the 5G Moto Mod. In phone’s first impression video (mentioned above), the handset is said to have a problem with the fit of the Moto mod. It doesn’t really sit flush with the phone leaving a slight gap between the panel and the mod.

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphone 700 with eight mics, active noise cancellation announced

Bose has announced its new flagship Noise Cancelling Headphone 700 that succeeds the much lauded QC35 IIs. The new headphone is touted to deliver even better sound quality with the company’s proprietary active equalization, which is said to refrain from boosting lows, mids and highs as this can contribute to listening fatigue over time. The device should also be able to pick up conversations easily with the help of four microphones, two of which are said to isolate a user’s speech while the other two work on detecting and reducing ambient noise. In addition to the new NC Headphone 700, Bose has also laid out its roadmap that consists of the Bose Earbuds 500 which launches later this year, and the Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700 which will be revealed next year.

The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphone 700 is priced at $399 (Rs 27,824 approx) and will go on sale from May 30 in the US. The company has not announced the pricing of the Bose Earbuds 500 and the Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700. The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphone 700 comes with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration, and features support for Siri as well. A software update is also available for the device that enables wake word access to invoke Alexa so that one can use voice command to call up the digital assistant.

The headphone is said to improve on noise cancellation with better circuitry and a new digital signal processing system, which is said to remove the familiar hissing noise when ANC is on. The device will also offer 11 different intensity levels of noise cancellation to choose from. There’s also a ‘full-transparency experience’ that will be available under Conversation Mode and is touted to let ambient sounds pass-through the device’s earcups completely.

The new Bose flagship headphone features a new design that somewhat resembles the Sony WH-1000XM3. It uses stainless-steel in its construction and is said to feature fewer “visible screws, seams, and joints than the industry standard.” Bose has finally added touch based controls this time that will enable users to play/pause music, control volume, skip tracks and more. There are three physical buttons as well, one for powering the device on and off, another to call up a set digital assistant and one for accessing noise cancellation levels. Bose claims that the headphones will deliver 20 hours of battery life.

Latest smartphones with 8GB to 12GB RAM

The amount of RAM included in smartphones has increased to a point where 6GB and 8GB RAM doesn’t turn heads anymore. Now, phones with 10GB and 12GB RAM are also a thing. While we are still pondering over what we can do with so much RAM, it’s never a bad thing to have more than you need. Who knows, maybe in the future, there could be applications and games that will demand more RAM. Presently, the minimum RAM you’d require to ensure smooth performance in general is 4GB. Anything above that is ensuring you have enough resources available should you need it while multitasking. More RAM also ensures your system doesn’t have to sacrifice resources to make a game run smoother. With at least 8GB RAM, you can swiftly minimise your game, make a call, take a photo and then go back to the game, while with 10GB RAM and above, you can actually keep your game minised for long hours. We do that regularly with the OnePlus 7 Pro where PUBG Mobile is kept pinned to the recents menu and loads straight to the lobby when we select the game.

If you’re in the market for a phone that can handle intensive tasks like gaming and multitasking, these are the 8GB, 10GB and 12GB RAM phones you should look at —

Smartphones with 12GB RAM

12GB is presently the most amount of RAM you can get in a smartphone. Presently, there are only a handful of phones that offer 12GB RAM but we expect this space to fill up as the year progresses.

OnePlus 7 Pro (Buy Here)

Price: Rs 57,999

The OnePlus 7 Pro’s top end variant comes with 12GB of RAM along with 256GB UFS 3.0 storage and Snapdragon 855 chipset. The phone, as a result, is blazing fast with minimal chance of slowing down no matter what you do on the device. The OnePlus 7 Pro also features a QHD+ AMOLED display with HDR10+ certification. The display stretches to the edges thanks to a pop-up camera module while on the back is a triple-camera setup consisting of a wide-angle lens, a primary 48MP lens and a telephoto lens that offers 3X zoom. Clearly, there’s no dearth of features on this device.

Black Shark 2 (Buy Here) Price: Rs 49,999

The Black Shark 2 entered the Indian market very recently. Offered as an all-out gaming device, the 12GB RAM actually makes sense on this device, more than the OnePlus 7 Pro. You can argue, at least that you need the resources for gaming longer, even though there are no games or apps whatsoever that will eat up all 12GB of RAM. The Black Shark 2 comes with a 6.39-inch FHD+ HDR AMOLED display with improved touch latency while a dedicated button optimises the device for gaming. The Snapdragon 855 powers the gaming phone and offers 256GB UFS 2.1 storage. On the back is a 48MP camera paired with a telephoto lens while on the front is a 20MP sensor. The Black Shark 2 is notable for its ability to pair with a large screen and two gamepads on each side. It has also has enhanced cooling tech and a fan-case that can apparently bring down the core temperature by 10 degrees in 10 seconds.

Samsung Galaxy S10+ (Buy Here) Price: Rs 1,17,000

A premium flagship armed to the teeth. The top-end variant of the Galaxy S10+ offers 12GB of RAM and a whopping 1TB of storage, so there’s no dearth of resources available on the device. The phone is powered by the Exynos 9820 in India and comes with a triple-camera setup on the back which includes a wide-angle and a telephoto sensor. On the front, the Galaxy S10+ offers a Infinity-O display with the front camera drilled into the top right corner of the 6.4-inch QHD+ AMOLED display.

Latest Phones with 10GB RAM

While there are handful of phones with 10GB RAM available in overseas markets, in India, only the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition offers 10GB of RAM. But that too was a limited edition device and will soon be phased out now that the OnePlus 7 Pro is here.

OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition (Buy Here) Price: Rs 46,999

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition was launched as a special edition with a new design and 10GB of RAM instead of 8GB RAM that’s there on the regular OnePlus 6T. Along with 10 gigs of RAM, it has 256GB UFS 2.1 storage and Snapdragon 845 SoC.

Smartphones with 8GB RAM

While OnePlus and a few others were early adopters of 8GB RAM, this RAM variant is now present in quite a few smartphones starting from the mid-range segment.

Samsung Galaxy S10+ (Buy Here) Price: Rs 91,900

There are two variants of the Samsung Galaxy S10+ that offers 8GB RAM. One comes with 128GB storage and another with 512GB storage. The rest of the features on the phone are the same.

The Oppo Reno 10X Zoom is also comes with the flagship Snapdragon 855 processor along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

OnePlus 7 (Buy Here) Price: Rs 37,99

The  OnePlus 7 is the leaned-down offering that sits below the OnePlus 7 Pro. This one offers more value for money as the hardware under the hood is essentially the same with Snapdragon 855, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. However, the display has the same U-shaped notch as its predecessor while on the back is a dual camera unit.

Vivo V15 Pro (Buy Here) Price: Rs 29,990

The Vivo V15 Pro was available in a  6GB RAM variant before and only recently did Vivo offer the updrage. The V15 Pro is notable for the triple-camera setup on the back and its bezel-less display that offers an in-display fingerprint sensor and a pop-up module for the front camera.

Xiaomi Poco F1 (Buy Here) Price: Rs 28,999

The Poco F1 was last year’s most affordable flagship phone and with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, it’s performance will be nearly as good as the premium offerings from last year.
