OPPO A1k vs Realme 3 vs Redmi 7: Price in India, Specifications, Features Comparison

OPPO added a new member to its family of budget-friendly A-series smartphones in India earlier this week. The new OPPO A1k launched in India just a week after its debut in Russia. Just like the OPPO A5s launched last month, the A1k comes with a waterdrop display notch and promises great battery life. In the Indian market, the OPPO A1k will face stiff competition from the Realme 3 and the recently launched Redmi 7. Is the new A1k a good alternative to the Realme 3 and Redmi 7 in the entry-level segment? That is exactly what we aim to find out in our spec comparison today.

OPPO A1k vs Realme 3 vs Redmi 7: Price in India

The new OPPO A1k has been priced at INR 8,490 in India and comes in just a single variant. Realme 3 now comes in three variants in India. The base variant priced at INR 8,999 packs 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. You can get the 3GB RAM + 64GB storage variant for INR 9,999 and the top-end 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant for INR 10,999. Redmi Note 7 is sold in two variants in India. The 2GB RAM variant with 32GB storage costs INR 7,999, while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant is priced at INR 8,999.

OPPO A1k vs Realme 3 vs Redmi 7: Display, Performance

The entry-level OPPO A1k has a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display. It offers 720 x 1560 pixels HD+ resolution and 282PPI pixel density. Featuring a waterdrop notch, the screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 SoC. As mentioned earlier, the phone has 2GB RAM and 32GB internal memory. You also get a dedicated microSD card slot to facilitate storage expansion up to 256GB. The A1k ships with ColorOS 6, based on Android 9.

Realme 3 comes with a 6.22-inch Dewdrop IPS LCD display panel. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass on top and offers 720 x 1520 pixels HD+ resolution. Under the hood of the Realme 3 is a MediaTek Helio P70 octa-core chipset. The powerful 12nm chip is coupled with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Thanks to a dedicated slot, users can expand the storage further up to 256GB. Like the A1k, Realme 3 runs ColorOS 6 based on Android Pie.

Redmi 7 has a 6.26-inch Dot Notch display with 720 x 1520 pixels HD+ resolution. It has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. Powering the Redmi 7 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 octa-core processor. The chipset is clubbed with up to 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Like the other two phones, Redmi 7 too has a dedicated microSD card slot. As for software, Redmi 7 runs on Android 9-based MIUI 10.2.

Thanks to its marginally bigger display size and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, the Redmi 7 has a very slight edge over the other two phones in the display department. When it comes to performance, it is the Realme 3 that has an edge over both the Redmi 7 and OPPO A1k.

OPPO A1k vs Realme 3 vs Redmi 7: Camera, Battery, Connectivity

The OPPO A1k is no doubt disappointing when it comes to imaging. It has a single 8MP sensor at the rear, clubbed with an f/2.2 aperture. On the front is a 5MP selfie snapper with an f/2.0 aperture. However, the phone does come with a Portrait mode and offers beautification features as well. The OPPO A1k is fueled by a 4000mAh battery. OPPO claims the phone can provide around 17 hours of usage on a single charge. It is bundled with a 10W charger in the box. Connectivity features supported by the OPPO A1k include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS with A-GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, MicroUSB 2.0, and Dual 4G VoLTE.

Realme 3 has a more impressive 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup on the back. The primary 13MP sensor is clubbed with an f/1.8 aperture lens. For selfies, the Realme phone has a 13MP front-facing camera with 1.12um pixel size. It gets AI beautification and AI facial unlock support as well. For impressive low-light performance, the Realme 3 has a Nightscape mode. Fueling the internals of the phone is a 4230mAh battery with 10W charging. The smartphone supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Dual 4G VoLTE, MicroUSB 2.0, and FM radio.

Redmi 7 is equipped with 12MP + 2MP AI dual cameras at the rear. The rear camera offers AI scene detection, HDR, and AI Beautify 4.0 features. Redmi 7’s 8MP selfie camera also comes with several AI-powered features, including AI face unlock. Keeping the lights on is a 4000mAh battery with 10W charging support. On the connectivity front, Redmi 7 supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, Dual 4G VoLTE, MicroUSB 2.0, and an IR blaster.

Realme 3 (review) and Redmi 7 are definitely superior to the OPPO A1k in terms of the camera hardware. In terms of connectivity, all three phones are very similar. However, the IR blaster gives the Redmi 7 a slight advantage.

OPPO A1k vs Realme 3 vs Redmi 7: Verdict

As is quite clear, the OPPO A1k isn’t very competitive against the Realme 3 and Redmi 7 in most areas. So if you are in the market for a new entry-level Android smartphone, you should definitely consider the Realme 3 and Redmi 7 over the OPPO A1k. Between the Realme 3 and the Redmi 7, I would suggest getting the Realme 3 for its more powerful chipset and more impressive selfie camera.
