OPPO A8 with 6.5-inch IPS LCD Display, MediaTek Helio P35 SoC Launched: Price, Features

Oppo has launched a new entry-level smartphone in the Chinese market, dubbed the Oppo A8. The device aims at providing mid-range specifications at an aggressive price tag. As of now, the device has only been launched in China, and the company has not revealed anything about the global release of the Oppo A8. Maybe, we will hear about it soon, but for now, let’s have a look at the price, specifications, and features of the Oppo A8 smartphone.

Oppo A8: Price

As said, the Oppo A8 is a budget-oriented device. The device is being offered in only one memory configuration – 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The device is priced at CNY 1,199, which roughly translates to somewhere around USD 170 or around ₹12000. The reservations for the device have already begun. The actual sales, however, will start from December 26.

The Oppo A8 comes with a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS display (with 1600 × 720 pixels resolution), which has a 20:9 aspect ratio owing to the waterdrop notch the device has at the top of the screen. Speaking of the waterdrop notch, the notch accommodates an 8MP selfie snapper. The rear houses a triple rear camera setup, including a 12MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth-of-field sensor. The camera comes with a hardware-level portrait blue and has five portrait modes. Right underneath the vertical camera module, we can see an LED flash. At the very middle, we can see a physical fingerprint scanner. Other than that, we can see the Oppo branding at the bottom right portion of the device’s rear.  The Oppo A8 comes in two paint jobs – Azure and Secret Night Black. The device is 8.3mm thick, and it weighs in at around 180 grams.

For processing, the Oppo A8 features the MediaTek Helio P35 processor, which, as said, is paired with four gigs of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The internal storage can further be expanded by up to 256GB with the help of an external SD card. For that matter, the Oppo A8 has a dedicated microSD card slot meaning that one can use two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time. At the battery front, the Oppo A8 is fueled with a 4,230 mAh battery. Sadly, there is no fast charging support coming up with the device. The Oppo A8 runs on ColorOS 6.1 out of the box, which is baked on top of Android 9 Pie. The company has not specified any official timeline for a potential ColorOS 7 update for the Oppo A8, so we can not say anything about the same as of now.

Meanwhile, the company’s flagship, the Oppo Reno 3 series of smartphones, is right around the corner, and you can get to know everything about the devices in the lineup by following our previous coverage of the same.
