Duolingo Launches Hindi Language Course; iOS And Android Versions Coming Soon

Native English speakers can now learn the second most spoken language in the world – Hindi from Duolingo. Much to the delight of Hindi learners, Duolingo has recently launched the new Hindi course for native English speakers. And it will soon be available on the mobile platforms – iOS and Android as well.

Duolingo’s Hindi Course:

This course has been created by Kanan Gupta. According to the Washington Post, Hindi was being spoken by almost 600 million speakers way back in 2015. This number would have certainly increased by now, hence was the need to create and launch the Hindi course for those who wished to get themselves acquainted with the language. Many Indian citizens around the world don’t know Hindi but have shown interest in learning the language. In the past year, over 154,000 had already signed up to be notified in case of a new course being made available for learning Hindi.

There are around 8.6 million Hindi speakers that are taking English speaking courses from Duolingo. Duolingo’s top 10 markets include India, with 10.1 million domestic users, hence the new Hindi course has been in the making targeting the wide audience of Duolingo, thereby increasing its customer base. Duolingo is also working on some English courses for the Bengali, Punjabi, Telugu and Tamil speaking community. Though there are no English courses to learn from in other Indian languages, one can volunteer to develop the same at Duolingo’s Incubator.

Duolingo is one of the most popular and free language learning platforms. As of 2016, this language learning website and app offered courses in 68 different languages across 28 languages. Gamification has been poured into the learning path of each language. Each lesson includes activities for reading, listening and speaking along with multiple choice questions. There is in-lesson grading in case you miss a challenge or lose a heart in case you go wrong. The user is encouraged to try again until he/she gets it correct. Lastly, there’s a streak count available to keep track of the time spent on learning the language.
