Vivo launched the Vivo V9 Youth in India this April. It is a more affordable variant of the Vivo V9 that came out in March. A month later, in May, Samsung launched its latest budget offering in the J-series, the Galaxy J8. Both the devices are currently on sale and pack the specifications that one could expect budget or mid-tier Android smartphones to have.

There are some remarkable similarities between the two smartphones from quite diverse companies. The Samsung Galaxy J8 and the Vivo V9 Youth pack the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz paired with an Adreno 506 GPU. They come with the same RAM, 4GB, inside. Both the smartphones have a dedicated micro-SD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The similarities continue in the imaging department. Although not exactly the same, both the smartphones have near identical dual camera setup at the pack and a rather big camera sensor on the front as well. They have very similar batteries as well. Vivo Youth 9 vs Samsung Galaxy J8: Screen

Speaking about the screen, there are some subtle but noticeable differences between the Vivo Youth 9 and Samsung Galaxy J8.  Vivo V9 Youth packs a large 6.3-inch FullView 2.0 IPS LCD panel featuring 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to the notch at the top, the V9 Youth boasts a 90% screen-to-body ratio, higher than pretty much all its rivals.

The Galaxy J8 flaunts an equally large 6-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display with HD+ resolution and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The Infinity Display on the Samsung Galaxy J8 provides a software button experience. Incidentally, there is no notch at the top of the display.

Then there is the new picture-in-picture mode that allows users to open a messaging app while they are playing a game. The screen can be split in two while in a game simply by sliding down with three fingers. A gaming keyboard is also available, specially designed to take up a small part of the screen to make sure your view isn’t blocked when chatting and playing games at the same time.
