Airtel is in the process of making its tariff plans simpler. For the same, it has launched a flurry of plans in the recent weeks. For its users wanting more voice calling benefit than data, the telco has just now launched a new line of prepaid plans currently valid only in Chennai circle called the ‘Smart Recharge’. These Smart Recharge prepaid packs start at Rs.25 and go up to a maximum of Rs.245 and come bundled with talk time, rate cutter, and data benefits with a minimum validity of 28 days.
Smart Recharge Prepaid Plan: Tariff Portfolio
Airtel has launched six prepaid plans under its Smart Recharge category, starting at Rs.25, with a maximum recharge of Rs.245. The entry-point Smart Recharge of Rs.25 gives its subscriber a talk time for Rs.18.69, and 10MB of data for 28 days. The next on the list is the Smart prepaid plan for Rs.35 that gives its user talk time of Rs.26.60, discounted calls at 1 paisa per second or 60 paise per minute, and 100MB of data for a similar validity as of the Rs.25 plan of 28 days.
Next are the Smart Recharges Rs.65 and Rs.95. Rs.65 Smart prepaid plan offers a full talk time of Rs.65 with 200MB data, and voice calls discounted at 60 paise per minute. Meanwhile, with the Rs.95 Smart Recharge, the user will get a full Rs.95 talk time with 500MB data, and discounted voice calls at 30 paise per minute.
The last couple of prepaid plans in the Smart Recharge’s tariff portfolio are over Rs.100. The Rs.145 Smart prepaid plan offers its user a complete Rs.145 talk time and 1GB of data with voice calls discounted at 30 paise per minute. The Smart Recharge of Rs.245 similarly gives a full talk time of Rs.245 along with 2GB data and voice calls discounted at 30 paise per minute and valid for 84 days.
Limitation of the Smart Recharge Prepaid Plan from Airtel
Airtel launched the Smart Recharge Prepaid Plans right after Vodafone Idea Ltd unveiled its Active Recharge prepaid plans. And just like VIL, Bharti Airtel’s Smart Recharge portfolio is currently available only to subscribers in a select circle of the telecom.
Airtel’s Smart Recharge plans are valid only in the Chennai circle as of now as open market plans. But seeing their demand, the telco might soon launch them in its operational circles of Delhi, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
Simplifying Recharge Portfolio
Besides wanting to offer affordable voice calling plans to its users, Airtel is also busy simplifying its tariff portfolio. That is why the telco has removed all the talk time recharges that were priced above Rs.20 from its menu. Initially, there were prepaid recharge options ranging from Rs.10 to Rs.20, Rs.30, and so on, but with the latest launch of the Smart Recharge prepaid plans, Airtel has discontinued all the plans that had denominations above Rs.20.

Not only that but the Rs.20 prepaid plan has been discontinued as well. The only plan operational from the earlier price band is the Rs.10 prepaid plan. If the user now wants to go in for a pro-voice calling affordable prepaid plans, they will have to subscribe to the newly launched Smart Recharge prepaid plans from Airtel.
An important point to note is that the heavy-on voice calling benefits, Smart Recharge prepaid plans offer no validity on the voice call benefits.
