Apple’s iOS 12.1 Update brings bokeh adjusting effect while taking a portrait

The latest iPhone launch from Apple saw the Cupertino brand three new models of the famed smartphone. The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR were launched at Apple’s launch event, while there was particular mention from the brand regarding the cameras in the new iPhones, their unique features and technology used in the new lenses.

The latest on the Apple iPhone XS and Apple iPhone XS Max is that users will now be able to make depth-of-field adjustments to a photo or in other words, the “Bokeh Effect”, even after its processed. The Bokeh effect has been the talk and feature in many of the smartphones released this year. The latest feature, simply put, lets the user blur the background of a portrait to make it hazier or sharper before a photo has been clicked. The additional part of this feature is that it lets users edit the depth-of-field adjustments even after the picture is snapped. Its all been made possible due to this feature coming as part of the recently released iOS 12.1 beta, that allows users to make depth-of-field adjustments, both during the process of clicking a portrait and after the snap gets processed.

How does this feature work?

Firstly to use this feature on the Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, users need to use the Portrait Mode to take the picture. Once snapped, a slider, from the bottom of the screen appears, which will let users adjust to the depth-of-field while taking the shot. The feature also allows the photographer to view the different settings and how its various effects can imp[act the picture before being clicked. So once the [ictureis clicked with the desired parameters, and the image processed, tap on the “Edit” button to change the intensity of the bokeh effect on the processed image.

The same effect on some of the top-end Android smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 9, is called the “Live Focus” feature. The “Live Focus” feature lets users of these smartphones mentioned above, to adjust the depth-of-field in real time as well as after the photo is processed. So joining them are the Apple iPhone XS and Apple iPhone XS Max as the final version of the iOS 12.1 rolls out to everyone.
