OnePlus 6T, Nokia 9, More Unreleased Phones Appear in ARCore Supported List, Revealed in APK Teardown

Google recently released the latest ARCore 1.5 app on the Play Store. The teardown of the latest app has revealed some interesting details about ARCore support on upcoming smartphones. A teardown revealed that several new devices, including unreleased and unannounced phones, have been listed to support the new software.

OnePlus 6T, Nokia 9 and More Support ARCore

Hidden in the code that shows an approved device list for ARCore 1.5, Android Police found some interesting names. Some of the devices in this list are yet to be released or even announced. Phone such as the OnePlus 6T, which will be announced next month, has been approved to support ARCore.

Some devices with codenames, such as the much-rumored Nokia 9, are also present on this list. The Nokia 9 goes by the codename AOP_sprout, and there’s another Nokia Device with the codename PNX_sprout. This could be the Nokia Phoenix device that we’ve been hearing about. There’s another Nokia phone that goes by the codename CTL_sprout.

The list also includes a new Vivo Nex device, which is referenced as the ‘B’ variant. This could be an upcoming variant of the Vivo Nex, or the newer Vivo Nex 2. We are not sure of this yet.

The device names being listed within the ARCore app could mean that Google has been secretly testing these new phones, and has already approved them to work with the app. Nothing is concrete yet, but most of these upcoming phones will work well with features such as Google Lens and more.

The list also included names of other smartphones that are already available for purchase. Below is a list of all existing devices that will henceforth support ARCore. ASUS ROG Phone, Huawei P20 Lite, Mate 10 Pro, Razer Phone, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Tab S3, Galaxy J5, Galaxy J5 Pro, Galaxy J7, Galaxy J7 (2017), Sony Xperia X, Vivo Vivo X21i and many other devices.

What is ARCore and How to Use it?

ARCore is Google’s Augmented Reality platform, which allows developers to build, experience, and learn all about Augmented Reality apps. It uses three main attributes, and the first is motion tracking. The app will use the phone’s camera to estimate the area around you, including position, orientation, and more. It will then overlay objects within the virtual camera on the app, alongside elements from the real world.

After motion tracking, the app will use environmental understanding, which will identify things around you. It will detect points on a horizontal or vertical surface, which is required when placing objects on these surfaces.

And finally, the app also has the function that allows it to estimate light. It will use the camera to judge the intensity of light, to provide color correction. This makes it easier for the virtual objects to appear realistic in the environment around you.

You can use ARCore on supported devices by downloading the app from Google Play Store. The app also features sharing, which allows users and developers to share their work. There’s a Cloud Anchor system available within ARCore, which can be used to track the position of the smartphone. It can also track the phone over a certain period of time, which can reveal the position and orientation of the phone.

The ARCore app will work on most newer Android smartphones, which means that you won’t have to spend a lot of money to experience augmented reality. In the recent times, Google has added several new phones on to the list of supported devices, and the list will only keep getting bigger.
