You can now get the Google Feed on the OnePlus Launcher for the OnePlus 6

Software on the OnePlus 6 is a pleasant experience with the software additions made to OxygenOS – the layer that sits on top of stock Android – just the right balance. However, the first thing I still find myself having to do when getting the OnePlus 6 is installing Nova Launcher to give me access to the Google Feed on the left home screen.

This is because the default OnePlus launcher that comes with the OnePlus 6 doesn’t natively have a Google Feed embedded. However, that’s about to change thanks to a mod developed over at XDA by XDA Senior Members paphonb and Skittles9823 who have created a modded version of the OnePlus launcher for the OnePlus 6 to give Google Feed support.

There are a few prerequisites – your OnePlus 6 must be running Android Pie and you need root access via Magisk.

In order to get started, just download the mod from this link and flash it and reboot.

The Magisk Module doesn’t just completely overwrite the OnePlus Shelf either if you use that, as you can enable either one with a simple quick toggle in settings. It’s simple, it’s quick, and it’s easy.

Once the device has rebooted, your OnePlus 6 should have the new OnePlus Launcher and you can enable the Google Feed panel straight from the launcher settings. For those unaware, the Google Feed provides updates and “cards” for information that you are interested in based on your searching habits, as well as weather and travel updates.

XDA details what the module does in the background:

What the Module does is replace the OnePlus Launcher APK with paphonb’s modded one, which enables the Google Feed. It’s a pretty cool modification because, as it turns out, the Google Feed is technically available as part of the OnePlus Launcher already. paphonb found that enabling the Google Feed was simple as the toggle to enable it was just disabled. Once you’ve got the module installed, reboot and the Google Feed will be enabled by default, with the ability to switch it back to the OnePlus Shelf at any time. You can download the module below!

Unfortunately, the mod will not yet work on the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, or OnePlus 5T until these devices get the official OxygenOS 9.0 Android Pie build.
