Samsung Begins Mass Production of Infinity-O Display, Could be for the Upcoming Galaxy S10

After an unimpressive run with the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus (review) and Galaxy Note 9 (review) regarding sales, Samsung is expected to go ‘all out’ with its upcoming Galaxy S10 series. However, a feature-enriched flagship is not going to be enough as the Korean manufacturer will also change the design to the extent that it will look remarkably different than its predecessor.

According to a report, Samsung does not want to waste any more time than necessary and has commenced production of its Infinity-O display. However, this screen is also expected to be found on an upcoming handset from Samsung that does not belong to the company’s premium Galaxy S10 range. The Galaxy A8s might also feature a display similar to this.

Samsung Updated Its Facilities to Make Galaxy S10 Infinity-O Display

Korean media has stated that Samsung introduced the necessary changes in its facilities to start the production of its Infinity-O display. Even in the past, the company likes to be prepared well before the launch of its high-end smartphone lineup, so this latest move suggests that the unique panel will most likely be for the Galaxy S10. Unlike the Galaxy S9, the Galaxy S10 with an Infinity-O display will look vastly different.

If the process is successful, Samsung will be able to increase the screen-to-body ratio of the smartphone without adding a notch or a motorized camera system. Currently, all of the company’s flagships feature a bezel at the top housing the front camera and other components. With the Infinity-O display, there’s just going to be a single cutout hiding that front camera. While there are several advantages to this design, it will obstruct part of the display.

Since this is going to be a physical cutout, using software to obscure it as users do with notches is not going to be possible anymore. Furthermore, Samsung might keep the Infinity-O display limited to the entry-level Galaxy S10. This is because the higher-end versions are expected to come with dual-camera systems at the front, so these sensors will require more than one hole.

However, with years of experience that Samsung has when it comes to the display business, it is possible the manufacturer might have found a way to embed one of the cameras under the screen. Samsung is known to be working on such a technology, but recent reports have said that it will take some time for the Korean giant to commercialize it.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Expected Specs so Far

The Galaxy S10 is reportedly going to be the first smartphone to feature up to 1TB of storage and 12GB of RAM. The highest-end model is expected to come with a 5G modem along with a total of six cameras. A quadruple camera system might be found at the back, with a dual-shooter at the front side.

For AR purposes, one model is expected to come with a 3D ToF sensor. The cheapest variant is going to do battle against the iPhone XR (review), with the most expensive one rumored to get 3x optical zoom. Samsung might launch its Galaxy S10 family during March 2019, so that month is going to be an exciting one.
