The deadly coronavirus outbreak, which originated in the city of Wuhan, continues to affect normal life across China. The effects of the epidemic have even been felt internationally with several travel restrictions in effect for China and for people traveling from and into that country. This year’s Mobile World Congress has also been adversely affected by the outbreak, with several companies confirming that they will pull out of the trade show just to be on the safer side.
Even as the Chinese government machinery struggles to contain the outbreak, there have been noteworthy efforts from several private companies in overcoming the effects of the epidemic. While some poured in monetary assistance to help the victims and to purchase medicine, some others donated medical equipment that would go a long way in helping the medical professionals engaged in containing the disease.
Chinese smartphone and electronics major Xiaomi are among the companies that are doing their bit to help contain the outbreak. In the latest such instance, the company announced the launch of an ‘epidemic monitoring’ feature within MIUI 10, which is designed to offer as much localized data is available regarding the outbreak, reports CNMO.
According to a post made by a Xiaomi spokesperson on Weibo, all you need to do to access the epidemic monitoring feature is to click the “Mobile Phone Manager” option (the Chinese equivalent of this since this is a China-specific feature) and then select the “Real-time Epidemic Surveillance around you” function.
Once enabled, this feature will let people choose their local address and community, and the system will then push details regarding the coronavirus situation in that specific area. Among the data pushed out to people include the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the region and the risk factors in the region. The feature will also help people reach out and seek help from the authorities.
