Airtel VoLTE Service Now in 20 Telecom Circles: List of Smartphones That Support Voice-over LTE in India

Airtel began rolling out its VoLTE services back in September 2017 and did so with a great promise of a PAN-India rollout by March of this year. There indeed has been a delay in those plans having overshot it already by six months, but Airtel is on the verge of announcing the rollout in the coming weeks. Of course, this operation has been ongoing for the last 11 months, and Airtel has rolled out their VoLTE services in a systematic phased manner. To understand the customer’s side of things with regards to their services, Airtel had even started a VoLTE Beta program, which additionally offered users 30 GB of free data in return for their valuable feedback on the same.

Airtel VoLTE Across 20 Circles Now

So as Airtel goes ahead with the plans to roll out their much-needed VoLTe services or Voice over LTE across 20 circles now, its a significant step towards the next generation from the Telecom giant. With that move, Airtel should have rolled out VoLTE services across all its circles except the Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir circles. However, as soon as the other 20 circles are fully initiated, the two pending remaining ones will also be completed.

Airtel Will Become PAN-India VoLTE Operator

Reliance is the only known PAN-India operator so far, but Idea and now Airtel are following their trail as both the telecom giants should now have covered 20 circles after their respective move. In the process, Airtel has also beaten rival telecom giant, Vodafone in rolling out their VoLTE services. Vodafone currently is far behind Airtel and the likes as their VoLTE services are spread across only 13 circles; however, this is after Airtel has been lagging behind them for this long with coverage in only 12 circles.

Airtel VoLTE Will Now Support Favourite Smartphone brands

During their initial rollout, Airtel had a minimal list of compatible smartphones, that could support their VoLTE service. However, they have made amends to this, and in the last 11 months, almost all popular smartphones are not included in their list of compatible devices.

Brands like Sony, Honor, Noia, Tecno, Infinix, Huawei and many others have now been included in the list. The recently released Sony Xperia XZ2, the flagship of the Japenese maker was the mark when the brand added Airtel VoLTE support. Then there are many entry-level smartphones such as Tecno, Infinix, Spice and Lava who have also been added to the list of compatible devices.

Other prominent and popular smartphones such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Note 5, OnePlus 6 and others are already supporting Airtel VoLTE.

No Support for Pixel and Motorola Devices, Yet!

It’s somewhat shocking that Google is yet to add Airtel VoLTE, considering the number of people using both the telecom brand as well as the Smartphones made by Google & Motorola. However, there are rumours that this would be done soon enough for users to enjoy the benefits of Airtel VoLTE on their Pixel and Motorola Smartphones. We can expect the telco to include these OEMs in its VoLTE range.
