Samsung has launched a new smartphone in its budget J-series in India. The South Korean has announced its first Android Go Edition smartphone dubbed Galaxy J2 Core in India at the ‘Google for India’ event in country’s capital, New Delhi. Being an Android Go Edition smartphone, for the J2 Core, Samsung has partnered with Google for realising the software needs of the device. Let’s take a look at the pricing, specifications, and pricing of the Galaxy J2 Core in India.
Samsung Galaxy J2 Core: Price in India, Availability
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core price in India is Rs. 6,190. The phone will be up for grabs via major retail stores across the country alongside Samsung’s e-shop website starting August 28, today. The Galaxy J2 Core will be up for sale in three colour options – Blue, Black, and Gold. At that price tag, let’s see what the company is offering under the hood.
Samsung Galaxy J2 Core: Specifications, Features
Coming to the specifications and features of the Galaxy J2 Core, the phone comes with a 5-inch TFT screen at 540×960 pixels resolution. An Exynos 7570 SoC powers the device with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There is a microSD card slot on board, which can further expand the storage on the device up to 256GB. In the imaging department, the J2 Core sports an 8MP camera at the rear and a 5MP selfie snapper at the front, both have a f/2.2 aperture.

The Galaxy J2 Core runs Android Go (Oreo), which is a subsidiary OS from Google that is Android for low-end devices with 1GB or lesser RAM. The OS makes for the perfect pitch for budget phones, and it is well optimised to handle apps and functions on underpowered devices. Thanks to Google’s assistance, Android Go UI quite clean and should not lag at all, which means that it will let users browse, watch videos on YouTube, and more even on their basic smartphone. It comes pre-loaded with Google Go apps such as Gmail Go, Google Maps Go, Assistant Go, Gboard Go, YouTube Go, and more. These apps are taylor made for running smoothly on low-end devices.
A 2600mAh battery backs the device. Connectivity options on the J2 Core include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz), GPS, Glonass, Bluetooth 4.2, and USB 2.0.
Samsung Galaxy J2 Core: Competing with Other Android Go Edition Phones On the Market
Since last year, Google has been offering assistance to Android Go Edition smartphones. The tech giant has successfully partnered with over 150 OEMs across the globe. Around 400 Android Go edition devices will be debuting globally by the end of this year. That being said, in India, Samsung will be facing competition from other low-end devices that do not run Android Go but offer budget phone under the same price segment, such as the Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A or the 10.or D2.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A vs 10.or D2 vs Lava Z60s: Affordable 4G Phones Compare For Features, Specs, Price
Priced at Rs. 5,999, the Redmi 5A is any day a much better device than the Galaxy J2 Core. It packs a better camera, processor, RAM, storage capacity, screen, and battery than the J2 Core. The Redmi 5A does not boot Android Go, and runs Xiaomi’s MIUI that is also a well-optimised OS by the Chinese manufacturer. We think Samsung should have priced the J2 Core lower than the Redmi 5A to be able to penetrate the market. With such a challenging competitor at a lesser pricing, we doubt the success of the J2 Core in India.
