LG Q9 Specifications Leak to Reveal Snapdragon 660 SoC, 3550mAh Battery, Storage Variants

Last month, LG launched the Q8 (2018), succeeding the Q8 from last year. The South Korean manufacturer is rumored to release one more new Q series smartphone this year, the Q9. While no concrete leak related to the Q9 had surfaced on the so far, Twitter user @Hackersimar has shared the alleged key specifications of the rumored smartphone.

LG Q9: Key Specifications Tipped

According to the Twitter user, LG Q9 will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor under the hood. The 14nm processor will be coupled with 4GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the smartphone is tipped to be available in two variants – 32GB and 64GB. Like other LG smartphones, we expect the Q9 to have a microSD card as well for further expansion. There is no word on the camera hardware though. Keeping the lights on will be a 3550mAh capacity battery, slightly larger than the 3300mAh capacity battery fueling the Q8. In terms of software, the LG Q9 will reportedly ship with the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box.

LG Q9: What We Expect to See

The LG Q9 will likely come with a FullVision IPS LCD display measuring at least 6.2-inches diagonally with Full HD+ resolution. While the Q8 (2018) does not feature a notched display, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Q9 comes with a notched display and a 19:9 aspect ratio. As suggested by @Hackersimar, the LG Q9 could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, a significant upgrade over the Snapdragon 450 processor powering the LG Q8. In the memory department, however, the latest leak suggest the Q9 will not be any different than the Q8.

As for optics, the LG Q8 features a 16MP primary camera with phase-detection autofocus and Full HD video recording. For selfies, the smartphone has a 5MP selfie camera on the front. Since the Q9 will obviously be more expensive than the Q8, the handset might be equipped with a dual-camera setup at the rear. The front-facing camera is expected to be superior as well. Connectivity features could include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and 4G VoLTE. Some of the other features that we expect to see on the Q9 include MIL-STD 810G certification, IP68 dust and water resistance, a USB Type-C port, and Face Unlock support.

LG Q9: Expected Price in India

LG launched the Q7 in India recently at a price of Rs.15,990 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant. We expect the LG Q9 to be priced at somewhere around Rs.20,000 in India. Going by the rumored specifications of the smartphone, the LG Q9 could prove to be a good alternative to the Xiaomi Mi A2 if LG gets its pricing right. If it is price above Rs.20,000, the Q9 will not be a convincing product, especially against devices like the POCO F1 and Honor Play.

As for the launch date, there is no word yet on when the smartphone will be made official. Since the Q9 was not made official alongside the Q8 (2018), there is a possibility that LG will unveil the handset sometime in the fourth quarter of the year.
