Vivo V9 Pro With Snapdragon 660, Halo FullView Display Expected to Launch in India this October

In the challenge to keep up with other Chinese tech giants such as Xiaomi and Huawei in the growing Indian market, the Vivo brand is learnt to be launching a new model in its mid-range line-up of smartphones. The news agency IANS reported that Vivo is set to come out with a Pro version of its already-popular Vivo V9 handset.

The Vivo V9 was launched back in March here in India, and it came with superb features for a mid-range smartphone at the time, such as Face Unlock, AR Stickers, a full-view 19:9 display, AI-based Face Beauty, 4K video recording support, a split-screen mode for multi-tasking, and a dedicated microSD card slot apart from dual SIM 4G support. The Vivo V9 Pro is expected to be based on the Vivo V9 but also offer something like the experience you would get from the much-pricier Vivo V11 Pro. Take a look at what we know about the upcoming phone.

Vivo V9 Pro: Launch In October?

The Vivo V9 Pro is reported to launch here in India in October, although, there is no mention about the same from the Chinese manufacturer, it is the most likely scenario. However, such a launch makes sense because it is timely, with October bringing in a whole month of shopping fervour thanks to Dussehra and Diwali season. As we reported earlier, Amazon and Flipkart, if not other e-commerce platforms, will be dishing out a spread of discounts and offers, and will also include several new launches this October, under limited period sales.

Earlier this month, i.e. on September 12, Vivo launched the mid-ranger V11 Pro, which features a waterdrop screen notch and in-display fingerprint sensor. The Vivo V9 Pro, however, will not be as high-end as the Vivo V11 Pro, but will be a significant upgrade over the Vivo V9.

Vivo V9 Pro: Reported Specifications

As mentioned above, the Indian news agency IANS reported the imminent launch of the Vivo V9 Pro, and according to the agency, the handset will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset that features Artificial Intelligence optimisation. This processor also powers the Vivo V11 Pro, but the price in India will be below the Rs 20,000 mark, there is only one handset to feature this chipset: the Xiaomi Mi A2. If Vivo V9 Pro is priced aggressively, it could give a good competition to the Mi A2, which has seen great sales in India.

The other specifications of the Vivo V9 Pro, reported or speculated, include a 6GB RAM, and a 6.3-inch IPS LCD Full HD+ display with a regular notch as opposed to the more contemporary waterdrop notch. The display is also said to sport ultra-thin bezels so that a neat screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent is achieved. Cameras could be borrowed from the Vivo V9, which already has a decent camera setup, with a 24MP front shooter and a 16MP+5MP dual rear camera. Other specifications are still under the wraps, so we will keep you updated as and when there are any further leaks.

Battery wise, the Vivo V9 has a 3260mAh unit without any solid fast charging ability, whereas, the Vivo V11 Pro has a 3400mAh battery with 18W fast charging, something which is quite commendable. Since the Vivo V9 Pro is expected to be placed between the two, and because it will carry the weight of the ‘Pro’ suffix, we expect the handset to feature at least 15W fast charging technology and maybe a V9-like 3260mAh battery.

Vivo V9 Pro: Price in India

Price in India of the Vivo V9 is Rs. 18,990 in India and its ‘Youth’ variant costs a little above Rs 16,000. Given that the handset is reported to cost less than Rs 20,000, we are betting on a price tag in India of Rs 19,990 for the Vivo V9 Pro, with a price cut for the Vivo V9 in the pipeline. It will be hard to sell the Vivo V9 Pro if it costs above Rs 20,000, since the Vivo V11 Pro, a higher-end phone, was just released for Rs 25,990.

The Mi A2, Xiaomi’s mid-ranger and the only current smartphone with a Snapdragon 660 AIE to cost under Rs 20,000, is hard to beat, with a 12MP+20MP rear dual camera and a 20MP selfie snapper, and a stock Android experience. To take on this handset, the Vivo V9 Pro will need to be priced close to its price point, which is Rs 16,999.
