Realme 2 Pro vs Vivo V9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Latest Phones Compared for Price, Features, Specs

The brand new Realme 2 Pro was unveiled in India on September 27 and with this new entrant, we now have increased competition in the mid-range smartphone segment, with the Vivo V9 Pro also launching with similar pricing and the same chipset. The Chinese giant Xiaomi is not one to be left behind, and after its Mi A2 handset that was launched in July in India as the first Snapdragon 660 AIE-powered smartphone under the Rs 20,000 mark, the company will soon launch the Mi 8 Lite housing the same processor.

In this post, we shall compare these three handsets, i.e. the Realme 2 Pro, the Vivo V9 Pro, and the Mi 8 Lite, for specifications, features, and pricing.

Realme 2 Pro vs Vivo V9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Price in India

The Realme 2 Pro has been launched with three RAM options. The handset will sell for Rs. 13,990 in 4GB RAM and for Rs 15,990 in 6GB RAM variant, both with 64GB internal storage. The larger RAM option is 8GB, with 128GB internal storage, with a launch price of Rs 17,990. The Realme 2 Pro will go on sale from October 11 as a Flipkart exclusive. Colour options are Ice Lake, Blue Ocean, and Black Sea.

The Vivo V9 Pro was launched yesterday for a price of Rs 19,990 and will sell on Vivo e-store and Amazon.in. During the Amazon Great India Festival in October, the handset will retail at just Rs 17,990. There is only one memory configuration here: 6GB RAM and 64GB expandable internal storage.

Lenovo Z5 Pro Full Screen Slider Smartphone Finally Revealed, Expected to Launch Soon

The Mi 8 Lite has not been launched officially yet in India, but its launch has been teased and hence, confirmed. The pricing for India is not yet known but the handset has gone on sale in China for Rs. 14,800 in 4GB+64GB model, Rs. 18,000 in 6GB+64GB option, and Rs. 22,000 in  6GB+128GB variant. This is an estimated conversion pricing in Indian Rupees based on the launch prices in China, but even if Xiaomi launched the Mi 8 Lite at these prices, the Realme 2 Pro has a clear price advantage. It is the only handset offering an 8GB RAM at Rs 17,990.

Realme 2 Pro vs Vivo V9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Display, Design Features

The Realme 2 Pro has been unveiled featuring a waterdrop notch, which the Oppo sub-brand is calling Dewdrop notch instead. The display is a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD unit with more than 90 percent screen-to-body ratio and a decent 409 ppi pixel density. The Vivo V9 Pro has a 6.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a notch that is small but not as minuscule as the Dewdrop or waterdrop type.

The Mi 8 Lite will also come with a notched display that is small but not waterdrop style, in a 6.26-inch IPS LCD Full HD+ panel. So the clear advantage here belongs to the Vivo V9 Pro, as LCD displays are no match for the clarity and colour spectrum of the Super AMOLED display, which is costlier for a reason. Design-wise, all three handsets look decent, but the Mi 8 Lite will be the only one offering gradient colour choices.

Realme 2 Pro vs Vivo V9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Camera Features

The Realme 2 Pro sports a 16MP+2MP rear dual camera and a 16MP selfie shooter, with AI-based features such as AI Beauty and AI Portrait. The Vivo V9 Pro gets a 13MP+2MP rear dual camera and a 12MP front snapper, with live bokeh, time lapse, Face Beauty, gender detection and other AI-based features. The Mi 8 Lite will ship with a 12MP+5MP rear dual camera and a powerful 24MP selfie camera, with AI features. So the clear winner here is the Mi 8 Lite.

Realme 2 Pro vs Vivo V9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Performance, Hardware

As mentioned above, all these three handsets will be powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset, which is soon becoming the mid-range favourite for smartphone makers. The processor is a fast and well-optimised one, with built-in AI making it speedier and much more efficient than processors using cloud-based AI optimisation. But, as we noted earlier, the Realme 2 Pro has its advantage in the 8GB RAM offering, something you do not get with either of the other two handsets in this comparison.

Realme 2 Pro vs Vivo V9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Battery

Surprisingly enough, the Realme 2 Pro comes with a smaller battery than the Realme 2, which had a 4230mAh battery. We hope that the 3500mAh battery on the Realme 2 Pro does not disappoint its buyers, but on the outset, it does fail the Pro badge. The Mi 8 Lite will ship with a 3350mAh battery and Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 support, so it is much better than the Realme 2 Pro which has downgraded itself and also the Vivo V9 Pro, which misses out on fast charging for its 3260mAh battery.

Realme 2 Pro vs Vivo V9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: Verdict

As you can see, the mid-range segment battle is heating up by the day, and it is not easy to pick any clear winner. The Realme 2 Pro is the only handset with a tiny notch here, and excellent screen real estate, but it does not get fast charging or a Pro kind of battery. The Mi 8 Lite is an excellent all rounder but we have not yet chanced upon its India launch date or pricing. The Vivo V9 Pro is here and offers a well-rounded package, certain to work in its favour, but it does not give the option of an 8GB RAM as the Realme 2 Pro does.
