Nokia earlier today announced the launch of its newest handset – the Nokia 7.1 in India. Touted as the first smartphone to feature Nokia’s PureDisplay technology, the phone also boasts of ZEISS optics for its camera setup. Even though the handset has been officially launched today, sales will commence from December 7, 2018, across various online and offline channels. The handset will also be available for purchase from Nokia’s own web store.

Nokia 7.1: Hardware, Specifications

The Nokia 7.1’s USP is the new PureDisplay that supports HDR10 content on platforms like YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. This display boasts of a 1,000,000: 1 dynamic contrast ratio and natural color reproduction in difficult lighting conditions. In case you’re wondering, the panel itself is of the IPS LCD type that uses a dedicated chip from PixelWorks to process and decode HDR content. The phone also possesses the ability to upscale SDR content to HDR. This panel measures 5.84-inches across with Full HD+ resolution in a 19:9 aspect ratio and also gets a notch at the top. For durability, the display also gets a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Moving on to the juicier bits, the Nokia 7.1 finds itself powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC that is usually found doing duty in cheaper handsets like the Redmi Note 5 Pro/ Redmi Note 6 Pro and the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro (M1). The Nokia 7.1 is offered in a single 64GB version with a microSD card slot provided for additional storage. The imaging setup on the Nokia 7.1 consists of a dual camera assembly at the rear that uses a 12-megapixel sensor for the primary camera. This sensor is mated to an f/1.8 ZEISS lens. As for the secondary rear camera, this happens to be a 5-megapixel, f.2.4 unit. At the front, the Nokia 7.1 gets an 8-megapixel fixed focus camera with f/2.0 aperture. The camera software supports several AI imaging modes apart from a fully customizable Pro Mode. In fact, Nokia claims to have redesigned their entire camera UI with the Nokia 7.1.

Like several other handsets from the Nokia stable, the Nokia 7.1 is an Android One device. This essentially means that the device will get regular Android updates directly from Google. The phone is all set to be updated to Android 9 Pie, the newest stable version of Android.

Nokia 7.1: Price in India, Availability and Offers

In India, the Nokia 7.1 will be offered in two color options; Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel. The handset will go on sale starting December 7 and has been priced at Rs.19,999. Nokia has also tied up with Airtel to offer 1TB of data for its prepaid costumers for plans priced above Rs.199. For Airtel postpaid consumers, another offer with up to 120GB of additional data benefits and a 3-month subscription to Netflix and discounted Amazon Prime subscription plans are also available. Additionally, consumers in possession of HDFC Bank debit or credit cards can avail EMI on their purchases and also stand to receive 10% cashback on all transactions done in offline stores through POS terminal machines.
