Earlier today, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor officially launched its newest Android smartphone the Honor 8C here in India. Powered by the all-new Snapdragon 632 chipset from Qualcomm, the Honor 8C is the first device to use this SoC here in India. The handset has also been priced well under the psychologically important 15k price mark in the country and will certainly attract buyers who are looking for a good looking budget handset with a bunch of features. In this article, let us check out when, how and where you would be able to buy the Honor 8C in India.
Honor 8C: First Sale and Pricing Details
The Honor 8C will be sold in two versions here in India. The entry-level, base version that gets 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage has been priced at Rs.11,999 while the pricier 4GB version with 64GB of storage will set you back by Rs.12,999. Both these variants will be offered in the following color options; Aurora Blue, Magic Night Black, Platinum Gold, and Nebula Purple. The handset will go on sale starting December 10 on Amazon India as well as Honor’s own web store. The Indian pricing of the handset is on par with what Honor had priced the handsets in its home market – China. In fact, the 64GB version is actually slightly cheaper in India.
Honor 8C: Specifications, Hardware
The Honor 8C features a large 6.26-inch HD+ (720×1520 pixels) TFT IPS LCD display in the tall 19:9 aspect ratio and 86.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. Like almost all other new handsets in this price segment, this display also features a notch at the top. As mentioned earlier in this article, the Honor 8C is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset making it the first device with this SoC to launch in India. It was also interesting to see Honor use a Qualcomm chipset on a budget handset. The company usually uses its own Kirin chipsets on almost all its phones. The two variants of the handsets are similar in all aspects except for the storage capacity. The base version only gets 32GB of memory while the top end variant ships with 64GB of storage space. Both the versions are dual-SIM handsets that also get the capability to expand the storage using micro SD cards.
Honor 8C: Camera, Software and Connectivity
As far as the imaging department goes, the Honor 8C gets a twin camera setup at the rear. The primary sensor has a resolution of 13-megapixels while the secondary rear camera is a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The rear camera setup also includes an LED flash for low light situations. Moving on to the front, this is where the phone integrates an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. This front camera is also used for the face unlock feature. The front camera has an f/2.0 aperture and also features a selfie toning light for low light selfies.
Connectivity wise, the Honor 8C has almost every important aspect covered with support for 4G VoLTE and single band Wi-Fi. Other connectivity features include support for Bluetooth V4.2 LE withaptX support, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS and Beidou. The handset also gets a microUSB port and a 3.5mm audio jack for wired connectivity. The phone gets a 4000 mAh battery and ships with a 10-watt charger as well. Being an Honor branded device, it is not surprising to see the Honor 8C run EMUI 8.2 atop an Android 8.1 core.
