Oppo to Launch a New Phone with In-display Fingerprint Sensor via Flipkart, Could be Oppo K1

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is likely to launch a new mid-range smartphone in India via Flipkart soon. The company has made live a new landing page for a yet to be announced smartphone. Currently, the only piece of information we have about the device is that it will be a relatively affordable handset with an in-display fingerprint scanner. An image of the bottom part of the device can also be seen on the teaser page. Looking at the design of the handset from the teaser image, it is quite likely that this handset could be the Oppo K1 that was launched in China back in October 2018.

Let us now take a closer look at the Oppo K1.

Oppo K1: Specifications and Features

The Oppo K1 is a mid-range handset from Oppo and would be the first phone from Oppo’s K-Series lineup to launch in India. The Oppo K1 features the now ubiquitous waterdrop notch on a large 6.4-inch IPS LCD display. This display has a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels in the tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio (402 PPI density). The highlight of this panel is the fact that it hides a fingerprint scanner underneath. When launched, the Oppo K1 is likely to be the first affordable mid-range handset to launch in India with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The Oppo K1 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC that houses an 8-core CPU. The graphics are handled by the Adreno 512 GPU. In China, the Oppo K1 comes in two versions – a base 4GB RAM variant with 64GB of storage and a pricier 6GB RAM variant with 64GB of storage. The Chinese variant of the device does not get a microSD card slot It remains to be seen if that remains the case with the Indian variant as well

The camera department on the Oppo K1 comprises of a 16-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture mated to a 2-megapixel depth sensor. This camera supports 4K video recording as well. Typical of Oppo devices, the Oppo K1 boasts of a 25-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and support for HDR. The front camera can record full HD videos at 30 fps. Both the front and rear cameras support AI scene recognition.

Typical of most other Oppo devices, the Oppo K1 runs Color OS 5.1 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The handset is likely to get an update to subsequent Android versions soon.

Oppo K1: Connectivity features, battery capacity, and expected price in India

The Oppo K1 boasts of several connectivity options including Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS/ A-GPS. The handset also gets a microUSB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired connectivity. The dual-SIM handset also supports 4G VoLTE networks and come with a bunch of sensors including an accelerometer, gyro, ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor. All this hardware is powered by a large 3600 mAh battery.

In China, the Oppo K1 launched with a price tag of RMB 1599 yuan (INR 17,132) for the 4GB RAM variant, and RMB 1799 yuan (INR 19,275) for the 6GB RAM variant. Both these variants will come in two color options; Mocha Red and Van Gogh Blue.
