Apple May Launch New AirPods Later This Year As Suppliers Begin Shipping Components

Apple was rumoured to debut new generation AirPods at the WWDC 2021. The new AirPods are expected to sport an AirPods Pro-like design with improved battery life. The new Apple TWS did not launch at the WWDC 2021. Rumours now suggest that the company could debit its wireless earbuds later this year. The company, as usual, has not officially made any announcement on the launch at the time of writing this. DigiTimes, however, claims that the third-generation AirPods will launch later this year. The claim is based on inputs from “industry sources”, who revealed that suppliers have kicked off the circuit board-related shipments for upcoming Apple products, including the next-generation AirPods.

“Suppliers including Semco, LG Innotek, Kinsus, Unimicron, Nan Ya, Zhen Ding and AT&S have all kicked off their BT substrate shipments for Apple’s next-generation products including the Apple Watch, AirPods and iPhone, which all adopt SiP modules,” MacRumours, citing the paywalled DigiTimes report, stated.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently reported some key details of the upcoming Apple TWS. Gurman claims that the third-generation TWS will get a major redesign. It will have an AirPods Pro-like design with a smaller stem. The case, too, is likely to get smaller and wider, similar to the Pro version.

Alleged images of the third-generation AirPods were leaked earlier this year. It will sport a semi-in-ear design. Some reports suggest that the standard AirPods will not come with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Apple is expected to reserve the feature for its Pro earbuds. On the contrary, a 52Audio report claimed that Apple’s entry-level TWS will feature ANC.

Apple is also expected to upgrade the design of the Pro TWS next year. The company might introduce new motion sensors that will add new fitness features to the true wireless earbuds. The Pro TWS is also rumoured to ditch the steam in favour of an in-ear design. Reports suggest that Apple is testing a more rounded shape, similar to Galaxy Buds and Google Pixel Buds.
