Qualcomm’s Next Flagship Snapdragon SoC Will Be Based on a 4nm Process, Pack Arm V9 Technology

Qualcomm is working on a new premium system-on-chip (SoC). Details of this chip with the model number SM8450 have leaked online. The rumoured chip is presumably the successor to the Snapdragon 888 SoC unveiled late last year. Tipster Evan Blass claims that this chip is built on a 4nm process. He further revealed that the upcoming flagship SoC will feature an integrated X65 5G modem RF system. The chipset consists of Kryo 780 CPU built on ARM Cortex V9 technology. There is no word on the moniker of the upcoming SoC. Let’s take a look at the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC successor expected to launch later this year.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 4nm SoC

Qualcomm is working on a new 4nm Snapdragon SoC. Smartphones launching later this year could feature the upcoming processor.

Tipster Evan Blass has listed the key details of the upcoming SM8450 SoC. The tipster claims that this processor is built on a 4nm processor. It will have an integrated X65 5G modem RF system. The chipset consists of Kryo 780 CPU built on ARM Cortex V9 technology, which was announced earlier this year.

Blass further revealed that the upcoming Qualcomm chipset will be paired with an Adreno 730 GPU. It is likely an upgrade over the Adreno 660 GPU found on the SD888 SoC. The Image Signal Processor (ISP) is also rumoured to get an upgrade. SM8450 will feature a Spectra 680 ISP compared to Spectra 580 on SD888. Smartphones launching with the upcoming Qualcomm chip will support up to 1GHz mmWave or 400MHz sub-6GHz 5G frequencies.

The chipset will also come with FastConnect 6900 subsystem to support Bluetooth LE Audio/5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E. Other features rumoured include support for quad-channel package LPDDR5 RAM, Adreno 665 video processing unit, etc.

The name of this upcoming chipset is currently unknown. Qualcomm could simply launch it as Snapdragon 888+, which was spotted on Geekbench recently. However, looking at the number of upgrades, it is unlikely to get a “+” moniker. This could well be an all-new premium range sitting at the top of the line for ultra-premium flagship devices.

There is no official word on the release of the upcoming Qualcomm chipset. We will share more details as and when the information is available.
