Twitter Verification is Back After Brief Hiatus: How You Can Get Verified Now

Twitter verification is back online, after a brief pause of about four days. On May 29, the company’s official verification news channel, @verified, had posted that the public Twitter verification process was being paused briefly due to the company receiving a massive number of requests from users around the world. Now, after a break of about four days from the public verification process, Twitter has announced that it is resuming acceptance of applications again.

“Requests are open! Sorry about that pause – now you can get back to your quest for a blue badge,” Twitter posted from its official account. The post follows up on the company’s post from May 29, when it stated, “We’re rolling in verification requests. So we gotta hit pause on accepting any more for now while we review the ones that have been submitted. We’ll reopen requests soon! (we pinky swear).” The process itself had resumed only on May 20, after a hiatus of almost four years – when Twitter had shut down public verification of accounts in 2017.

How to get Twitter verification for your account

Twitter has a new policy in place in order for accounts to get verified, and the forefront of that policy is that accounts will need to be “notable, authentic and active”. Accounts also need to be classifiable under one of the following categories:

• Governments and government officials
• News organisations and journalists
• Companies, brands and organisations
• Entertainment organisations and individuals
• Sports teams
• Organisations and personalities
• Activists, organisers and influential individuals
• Scientists, academics and religious leaders

If you do meet the criteria above, here are the following steps to get the Twitter verification badge:

• Head to settings, and select account settings
• Under account settings, the verification option will appear
• If it hasn’t appeared for you yet, you’ll have to wait until it does. Twitter is rolling it out in phases. There is no manual workaround to this
• Fill up the form as it comes. You will have to verify an authentic phone number, and also an email address
• Users will also need to verify their identity with a valid, government issued identity document
• Once the form is duly filled, you will have to wait between seven and 30 days to hear back
• If you get verified, you will automatically see the blue badge on your account
• If you don’t, you will be notified on your registered email address. You can reapply for it after 30 days

Note: To not get automatically disqualified, make sure that your account has not faced any temporary ban for violating Twitter’s official community guidelines within at least 12 months before applying for the Twitter verification badge.
