Recently, at the Snapdragon Tech Summit, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship processor for smartphones and soon after the announcement, Realme, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, and more brands announced their phones with the new Snapdragon SoC will be unveiled soon. Now, Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 processors for laptops and Chromebooks with improvements over its predecessor. Here is everything you need to know about the newly launched processors.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3
The new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is built for always-on, always-connected PCs. The chipset is built on a 5nm process and is rated to deliver performance boosts of up to 57% and up to 85% faster compared to the second-gen chipset. It also brings 60% GPU performance improvement. Qualcomm also claims, it supports up to 25+ hours on a single charge. In terms of connectivity options, this SoC offers 4G LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi 6/6E with speeds up to 10 Gbps with the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF system or up to 7.5Gbps with the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF system. Further, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 also brings enterprise-grade security with secure boot and the Microsoft Pluton TPM architecture running on the Secure Processing Unit (SPU).
The chipset also supports rich audio and video experience with apps like Teams and Zoom supporting up to 4K HDR video up to 24MP and the latest generation 3A (Autofocus, Auto White Balance, and Auto Exposure). In terms of visuals, the SoC supports up to 4K Ultra HD with a variable refresh rate of up to 120fps. and as for the RAM and storage, it offers 8 x 16 channel, LPDDR4x-4266 memory and NVMe over PCIe SSD and UFS 3.1. Lastly, the SoC also gets over 29 TOPS, which is a big boost to AI performance.
Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3
The Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 is for entry-level laptops and Chromebooks. It is built on 6nm fabrication process and comes with up to 60% multi-threaded CPU performance boost and up to 70% GPU boost over the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2. In terms of connectivity options, there is support for 5G (sub-6 GHz and mmWave) along with Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF with a peak speed of 3.7Gbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 5 standards.
The Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 brings support for up to 64MP single camera with 4K HDR capture and up to Full HD+ display resolution. For storage, the SoC supports eMMC 5.1, PCIe NVMe/SSD, UFS 2.1, and SD 3.0 (SDCC) options. It is also said to offer a long-lasting battery, supports Windows 11.
Laptops and Chromebooks with new Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 will be launched in 2022.
